The Tax Collector (2020) will get a 4K UHD release on October 6.

This makes things interesting. Saw the 4K Digital was dropping for $15 this Friday. Was planning on getting it for sure, but now I might hold out for the disc.

Probably not. It's going to be 4K SDR like Color Out of Space. It's from the same distributor. They don't do HDR yet.

I have the digital on pre-order for tomorrow and that one will also be 4K SDR.

Though if David Ayer's previous HDR grades on his films are anything to go by e.g. Suicide Squad then it's no great loss, he loves that thin low-contrast look.

Actually RLJ did two earlier 4k discs with HDR in 2018, Galveston and Arizona. Never saw Arizona but based on how the HDR on Galveston turned out we're better off with SDR.

I wouldn’t be so sure: Bright’s HDR grade on Netflix is spectacular and has plenty of punch and flash.

That said, I don’t expect HDR here. I believe the iTunes 4K preorder (while it was still up) was SDR. Plus after the Galveston debacle I think RLJE is afraid of HDR.

I hope we get a 4K of Harsh Times sometime soon. That's my favorite Ayer film. Bale rocks it.

COOS didn't have HDR because it wasn't possible with the budget and post facility used by the production. The facility used is not equipped for today's full feature production work and is mostly used for localization jobs and TV/indie work, like the film. If the Director does another release down the line, to go with the other planned films, it will most likely get an HDR grade.

I watched the digital 4K and the movie was badass, IMO. Hopefully the 4K disc will HDR.
