I'm confused. Okay, how do you guys differentiate "fantasy" and "sci-fi"? Don't tell me you are labeling this as "fantasy" just because, you know, Norse mythology and whatnot. I put "Marvel" in the title for a reason. It's fine if y'all think this is "fantasy", I just need a stronger argument from someone in order to make sense out of this. The Lord of the Rings is fantasy and Man of Steel is sci-fi, so where does Thor fall closer to?

No offense but I don't want to waste my time explaining something to you, just for you to disagree anyway. I tried that already remember? You thought I was personally attacking you for explaining something to you. I'd rather not go there. Just do your own research.

![]() Anyway on topic: Thor is an alien like Superman. See, that is not so hard is it? |

And if you go here, each film is given the correct genres. https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/...matic-universe Thor, Thor 2, Doctor Strange, the upcoming Doctor Strange 2, Shang-Chi and Blade are all considered fantasy. It's right there. That's all the explaining I'm going to do. The rest you can do via Google. Then again, if you had done your research in the first place then this poll wouldn't need to exist. |

The idea of the enchantment on Mjlonir is fantasy. And before, but Vision, as Odin said, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.", Vision can pick it up but only Thor and Cap were able to use Thor's lighting.

While the Thor movies do make an attempt to marry Norse myth with space opera tropes (even going so far as explaining away the Bifrost Bridge with a wormhole), there are still plenty of unexplained phenomenon that makes it more fantasy than sci-fi. Especially in Ragnarok with all of Hela's powers and such. To me, there's enough magic and enough of the "impossible" to peg it as a space fantasy. Same as Star Wars. Most superhero movies tread that fine line by nature, but the way I see it, they are to us what ancient mythic heroes and gods (like Hercules) would have been to older cultures. We're not invested in these stories for scientific accuracy or plausibility, we're actually looking for the opposite--to imagine the scope of magic and power, and feel wonder over it. |

Calling Thor science fiction is like calling 48 Hours a musical because it has a scene where Eddie Murphy is singing Roxanne. And no, Man of Steel is not science fiction either. Simply throwing out some science sounding mumbo jumbo to explain fantasy powers does not make it any less fantasy. Simply being an alien and coming from a planet with different gravity does not give any valid scientific explanation as to how Superman is able to fly on our planet. I'd say Hunt for Red October is more science fiction than Thor or Superman.

Or highly advanced alien technology. I see. What would you consider sci-fi? Well, it's called science fiction for a reason. |
