Anyone heard anything about what would be India's first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray? I was quite surprised that Atmos made it to Bollywood blu-rays at the same time as in the U.S., albeit just a handful of releases....but that also gives me hope about possible debuting of India's first UHD release not far away from the 4K blu-ray releases in the U.S. YRF will probably be at the forefront.

we may hope for Bahubali 2 or Endhiran 2 on bluray, but hope only, as you know new indian movies are releasing on web in hds only nowadays, as studios don't have money to buy blu ray discs so that they can fulfill your "First 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray"
but don't worry in near future you can expect great movies like Mastizaade on bluray ![]() |

DOLBY VISION has just been finalized. Hollywood will be releasing 4k UHD Blu-Rays in HDR and in Dolby Vision in this spring. There will be many 4k UHD Blu-Rays this summer that will not have HDR. It is only the AUDIO QUALITY aspect that Bollywood has adapted fastest to. Be it "Dolby TrueHD advanced 96k upsampling" or "DTS HD MA" or "Dolby Atmos" VIDEO QUALITY has been pretty average on Bollywood BRDs to say the least. Hovering around ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The best Bollywood BRDs video quality wise so far are from JODHAA AKBAR ("French" Bodega), SAAWARIYA ("US" Columbia/tristar) and GOW I, II ("USA" Cinelicious). Bollywood should just wait it out as they have already waited forever for 1080p releases. All Shemaroo's, ultra video's digital restorations can go HDR restoration in a year from now as 4K UHD BRD releases can make unbalanced Video quality look even more horrendrous and atrocious on OLED or non-OLED 4K TVs. Even Vidhu Vinod Chopra can release his PARINDA (1989) in 4K UHD after undergoing HDR correction year from now. As he is already re-mastering, restoring all VVC productions to Dolby Atmos most probably. Last edited by Hindustani; 02-05-2016 at 06:16 AM. |

Maybe not an UltraHD Bluray, but maybe we can see 4K streams on YouTube/Netflix? If you look at all the trailers and songs on YouTube they are all in 1080p, but most of the movies never get a bluray release. So they know how to transfer and make 1080p files for streaming, but they don't want to spend money on making a bluray. We might see more of the same with 4k.

Sholay was shot on 35 mm film, 4:3 film format
What is required - 4K or 8K scans of negative OR some good film print - Color correction / Digital Restoration/fixing - Audio conversion to DTS-MA or Atmos tracks (stereo or 6 track or whatever) - Adding some commentary tracks - Adding special features or supporting film materials - Separate edition which shows the 70 mm blow up prints that was created - Add the recent 3D mastered edition on 1080p - Alternate endings or extended edition - Create a 4K or 8K Digital Master - Create 1080p blu-ray, 4K UHD HDR blu-ray, Add Digital Copies, Allow renting on youtube OR stream on Netflix - Good Artwork or steelbook (They can really skip DVD) Criterion should do this; I did notify them, but not sure if they will pick this movie and not sure if they will be able to get through the "rights" related mess it is in. |

I seriously doubt ARRI 65mm was used to shoot AIRLIFT.
AIRLIFT looks horribly shot. It is a one time watch in cinema which I missed. A movie like ARGO used the following lens to get the period right: Arri Alexa Plus, Hawk V-Lite, V-Plus, V-Series, Zeiss Super Speed, Ultra Prime and Angenieux Optimo Lenses Arricam LT, Hawk V-Lite, V-Plus, V-Series, Zeiss Super Speed, Ultra Prime, Angenieux Optimo and Canon Lenses Arricam ST, Hawk V-Lite, V-Plus, V-Series, Zeiss Super Speed, Ultra Prime, Angenieux Optimo and Canon Lenses Arriflex 235, Zeiss Super Speed and Ultra Prime Lenses Arriflex 35 BL4, Zeiss Super Speed and Ultra Prime Lenses Arriflex 435, Zeiss Super Speed and Ultra Prime Lenses Bolex H16 REX-5, Kern-Paillard Switar and Angenieux Lenses Canon 1014 AZ ARGO used the following Cinematic Processes to get the period right: ARRIRAW (2.8K) (source format) (some scenes) Digital Intermediate (4K) (master format) Hawk Scope (anamorphic) (source format) Super 16 (source format) (some shots) Super 35 (source format) (some scenes) Super 8 (source format) (some shots) Techniscope (source format) (some scenes) AIRLIFT was a perfect film that should have been shot in super 35 mm anamorphic lens to get the 1991 year period right! unfortunately, it looks and feels low budget. |

4k projectors are not at an affordable rate yet, and 4k TVs are not large enough to take advantage of the full potential of 4K resolution (unless you have a TV over 70")
