Default The Dark Knight Rises vs Batman Returns

Both films stand as divisive entries in their respective film series but which one do you consider to be better?

I'll have to go with Returns.
Generally like Nolan Batmans much more but Rises was by far my least favorite of his trilogy and Returns was the best Burton Batman as far as I'm concerned.

Batman Returns.

Too much stupid in The Dark Knight Rises. Nothing as stupid as the ferry boat scene in The Dark Knight but still plenty of stupidity.

Can't say I was ever a fan of the Burton movies. They are watchable and there is some merit here and there, but I always felt a sense of fakeness and claustrophoby to his interpretation of Gotham.

I actually enjoyed The Dark Knight Rises, so it gets my vote.

I loved TDKR when it came out, but haven't seen it since. I'm worried it might not hold up as well on a rewatch. It looks great, has nice action scenes, and I do love Bane as the villain. And I admire what the plot tries to do--maybe a little too messy for its own good, but the social themes involved are fascinating and it brings the trilogy in full circle.

I loved Batman Returns since it came out--it enthralled me as a kid and select scenes (like Catwoman's "birth" and the finale) still gives me chills. The film overall is effortlessly entertaining and has a good style to it--gothic, a bit cartoonish, but it's still not afraid to have adult humor. I've rewatched it plenty of times and I think it holds up.

It's kinda neck and neck, but nostalgia demands I vote on Batman Returns.

I liked the Burton Batman movies, but nothing still beats The Dark Knight Trilogy for me. Returns has a special place in my heart and is still one of my favorite Burton movies, but despite its flaws I think TDKR is a much better film thematically.

Batman Returns is for me the far better of the two. I find I like The Dark Knight Rises Less and less each time I watch it.

The Dark Knight Rises for me. There's very little I liked about Returns.

The Dark Knight Rises wins for me, easily. All I really like about Batman Returns is Michelle Pfeiffer. The rest of it is simply too cartoon-y for my liking. And it's sort of empty thematically.

TDKR, on the other hand, is powerful and it sits as an excellent conclusion to Nolan's trilogy. Bane's a great villain. Plus, it's got both Anne Hathaway AND Marion Cotillard. Tough to be that duo. I love the ending.
