Default Gamma question

In Samsung I noticed that for SDR content it is set to BT.1886 and HDR content it is set to ST.2084.
My question is about the slider which goes from -3 to 3. I tried finding an answer to what's the proper way to set it but couldn't find a definitive answer, most say they play with it until they get the picture they are pleased with. From what I understand if I decrease the slider the Gamma is increased and vise versa.

Thank you

Yes, these sliders vary how close to the BT.1886 (SDR gamma) and ST.2084 (HDR gamma equivalent) curve the display conforms to. Basically, they control how the digital pixel values are converted into real-world light output.

To know what the most accurate setting is, you'd need to measure the display with a colorimeter or spectroradiometer, like a professional calibrator would. But I imagine provided you're in an accurate mode like Movie or the new Filmmaker Mode, they'll be pretty close.

There's also some wiggle room with this in terms of your room lighting and surrounding environment.
