Australia The Usual Suspects (July 31, 2013)

Paramount have finally announced a local release for The Usual Suspects on July 31, 2013. This one's been out most everywhere else for years. It'll be interesting to see how it scrubs up seeing releases elsewhere were MGM ones with an older master. With Paramount releasing it we might get something different. A couple of countries are getting it a few weeks earlier so we'll see what they end up with as it'll likely be what our transfer will be based on.

Nice to see we're getting some very good catalogue releases even though it's a bit delayed. Still waiting on Stand By Me.

well this is good but sometimes i feel iffy with Paramount releasing it. They have small tendency to have bare bones releases

Yeah but there's a serious lack of extras on the MGM release anyways. (2 Trailers)

Is there any indication there will be a new master, though?

Also, what's happening with Paramount — releasing an MGM film, while passing its own on to WB for distribution?

It was only MGM in the states, it was Polygram originally and distributed through Sony, the MGM and Sony did a deal, it went to them, but has been in distribution limbo here in Oz for a few years. That said, I have no clue how Paramount suddenly has it....

Very, very interested to see if it ends up with a new encoding. I still don't own it on BD, yet.

They're also releasing it in Japan and various other territories.

^ I'm curious as well. If anyone with the ability to take a few screenshots can do so it would be greatly appreciated.

Very nice picture quality, DTS-HD MA Audio, but zero extras. 34 gig stream as opposed to the 19 gig UK. (Spanish, Japanese & Portuguese DD)

did a direct comparison with the US disc, its the same source with the same limitations but encoded at double the bitrate and with AVC. It is slightly sharper than the US disc. If you already have it, dont bother upgrading. If you do not, this is the one to get.

Are you able to do some screenshots? If you can do a couple and note the approximate timecodes I can do some for the US release for comparison.

Surprised I didn't have this already. But it's a pretty good deal for just a Fiver.
Another title I can add to my naughty Kevin collection!

Are we sure it's the same source as the US BD? Does the Aussie release open with a Paramount/Spelling International/Polygram combo or is it just MGM like the US releases?
