Default Finally going region free...looking for suggestions

I have this tv:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and currently use a PS4 to watch my movies.... I love that the remote that came with the tv can control the PS4 as well.

Messing with settings for the "perfect" image isn't something I want to do, I just want a player that will work well with the tv and be reliable. UHD isn't necessary as I plan to eventually pick up the PS5, though I'm not opposed either.

I'd prefer to keep it under $200 but if there is a player with a sterling reputation I can stretch the budget.

Thanks!

For region B blu-rays, I simply bought a UK SONY blu-ray player and a power converter. It's worked flawlessly and I don't have to worry about the many potential issues of having a third-party modified player (which many region free players are).

Which model?
Did you order from the UK or a USA company?
I have thought about this option

Hi there, to be exact I ordered a SONY BDP-S3700 Blu-ray Disc Player (SONY UK) from Amazon UK.

Here's a link for you:

Do you have the link to the power converter you use? Trying to research all this and it seems pretty complicated

Finding a good one definitely took a bit of work. This is definitely not a product that you want to compromise on quality. I've used this SEYAS 500 watt model for two years now at multiple locations with no issues. I hope this helps.

So if I were to go region-free instead of buying a Region B or C player, what do you all recommend?

I bought a modified multi-region player from Multi-System on eBay back in 2016 or 17(cant remember). A Sony BDP-S6500. Has worked flawlessly, though I keep it set to Region B all the time and have never hooked it up to the internet to avoid any firmware updates breaking the mod.

I only got it because I was preparing for an eventual 4K television purchase, and that player does 4K up scaling. If you do not need 4K up scaling, 3D, etc, the S3700 or S1700 is a fantastic choice too!

Here is their main store page on eBay: http://www.ebaystores.com/multisystemdvdregionfreedvd

Ensure the one you buy actually has a Blu-ray multi-region mod. They do sell players that are DVD multi-region, but still stuck on Region A for Blu-ray.

PM me if you have any questions, more than happy to help!

I bought a region free player from Multi-System on eBay around the same time as Vanguard (above me). It's been a blast. I still use it on a daily basis. A Sony BDP-3500. I leave mine connected to the internet and have no issues with firmware updates.

They'll usually let you know in the description if it can be updated via firmware. I spent around $110-$115.

That player sells for just $64.99 brand new at Best Buy with a warranty and free shipping.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-st...?skuId=4743200

and neither it or the one you are offering are modified to be region free, so your "ad" is kinda off topic.

Many of these region free modified blu-ray players that people are buying are such old models that new firmware updates are no longer being offered for them, anyways. Firmware updates for most makes & models cease after a couple of years from their launch date if not sooner.

Hi guys, I'm french and I owe some region A discs. I have recently bought a 4k disc anime from US (weathering with you). Unfortunately it is region A locked. I can't play it in my french xbox one s. Forum here for this anim confirms it.
Can someone tell me that even it is an A region locked 4k disc, we can play it in a multiregion player that play 4k discs? Thanks. I'd like to buy a multiregion player too.

Multi region 4k players sold in EU are quite expensive (500€+), whereas multi-region standard blu-ray models can be bought for 200€ or less. I mention this because, while a appreciate the option to watch region A films from time to time, I have yet to come across a single 4k disc that is region locked. I am not sure what this particular film of yours is, but it seems to be a very rare exception to the rule.

It is definitely an oddity but reports are that this is true. I don't know if it's a mistake or perhaps to prevent Japanese customers from importing it. We're waiting to see if the Weathering With You US 4K is region locked as well.

I wasn't aware that 4K discs could even be region locked -- I didn't even think that was part of the technical specs.

I know there are BD that are Region All, but Geo Locked so they can only play if the player is set up properly or if it's hooked to the internet that the IP address is clear. I'm not sure even that is possible with 4K discs.

The database here on Bluray.com says the 4K disc is Region Free, but BD is locked. I guess first question are you sure it's a 4K disc and not a mispackaged BD you have (or accidentally picked the BD out of the case)

Region Free 4k players are only region free for DVD and BD since there should be no need for region modding the UHD part.
I've always thought buying a Region Free BD player and any 4K player was preferable to a one unit solution -- cheaper a lot of the time too.
I know in the UK, a good Region Free BD player is only £100, not sure about France though I can't imagine it would be that much more expensive.

hariseldon 4k uhd discs are not meant to have regions, it is part of the spec. Like at work if your contract dose not include some thing then unless there is good reason you don't have to do it.
