Default Hindi titles for Blu-rays

HI,

I am keenly interested in bluray introducing Hindi Movies. As Hindi movies are the largest movie makers in the world today.

Perhaps, bluray format could help change the indian film industry for better.
I am interested in the 70's and the 80' movies. particularly the Amithab Bachan Starrers.

I'm waiting for Yash Raj (major in India with movies like Mohabatein, Dhoom, Koi mil gaya, Veer zaara ...) to make their move or Eros international to release some more classics (Lagaan, Dil se, Devdas).
you can add Hum Tum and Chalte Chalte

Would love to see the Apu Trilogy on blu-ray, as well as Bombay.

I have seen the first blu-ray release Heyy Babyy and I am impressed. I wrote this brief review in another forum:

Heyy Babyy is an excellent blu-ray transfer. It is not the best in comparison to Hollywood transfers but it is better than some Hollywood blu-rays that I have seen. For example, it is better than Entrapment and Air Force One but not good as Pirates. I should whole heartedly thank Eros for this excellent work for the first time in the history of Bollywood movie transfers.

The overall PQ is excellent but surprisingly it changes from place to place in the movie. I am not sure whether I am seeing the differences of the cameras and film stock that they have used to make this movie. The best PQ is in the wedding scene filmed in India. Then the song Mast Kalander follows. An interesting aspect that I could notice was the parts of the movie filmed in Sydney were not good as the other parts filmed in India. The quality of starting song was good but the song filmed on the streets of Sydney was not good as the other songs.

The AQ is noticeably better than the DVD and could say that it is a good DD5.1 mix (but the first song has too much base).

The subtitles of this movie are in the right place, that is at the bottom of the picture (not on the black bars) so it gave an outstanding visual treat on a large CIH scope screen. Hope OSO and Saawariya would place the subtitles correctly so that those would be watchable on a CIH scope screen.

Also, hope that the PQ and AQ of OSO and Saawariya would be better than Heyy babyy.

I always seemed to think bollywood made terrible transfers compared to Hollywood but it looks like the studios may be putting in an effort for good transfers when releasing on blu-ray

Would be great to see the classics & more modern movies like Don, Dhoom 2, Krrish etc get transfers that hit 4+ for PQ with reviewers

Then they would truly be worth replacing on DVD

Yes of course. Eagerly and patiently waiting for Bollywood studios to release all classics on blu-ray.

Currently, there is a blu-ray survey on Yash Raj site.

One title I'm morbidly curious about is the Disney/Yash Raj collaboration Roadside Romeo - animated entirely in India, it's essentially a Bollywood cartoon.

Pretty much looks like a CG Lady and the Tramp with anthropomorphic characters speaking in Hindi, but it can't help but pique my curiosity. It's supposedly getting a limited release in the U.S. as well - I wonder whether Disney would throw out a Region A or all-region BD of it...

Roadside Romeo is a good development and a nice attempt. I am happy about it. However, animation is not one of Bollywood's strengths. If I need a good animation I will look at Hollywood.

I'm very surprised there aren't more yet.

Bahliwood pumps out something like 400 movies a month, give or take.
Their shear volume is staggering.

Some of their better known actors work on 7 or 8 movies AT A TIME!!!

Trust me...that's like whoa!!!

Please everyone complete the Yash Raj blu-ray survey. Hopefully that will encourage them to release their movies on blu-ray soon. Thank you.

I don't participate in suveys where image qality is not even an option listed why you want to buy a BD. Image and sound quality are the MAJOR reason to buy HD and not DVD.

Very good and valid point. I straight away saw this problem with that survey. In addition there are lot of issues with those questions and the way it is designed. In some cases valid options are not given and it is really annoying to complete that survey. IMO, basically it is a very badly designed survey. I couldn’t believe that aspect of it.

However, my request to complete the survey is to encourage Yash Raj to release good quality blu-ray versions of classics that they have soon as possible. I cannot see any other easy way to get the message to them. This is the final outcome that we would like to see.

Default good to do the survey

I agree that, its better to inform YashRah films that there are many to afford hindi movies on bluray.

I am sure, the quaility and the sound will be maintained to the best.

I am keenly interested in old hindi blockbuster...films like Sholay, Don, Majboor, and many more..

Both Bollywood movies released so far are region free. They are Heyy Babyy and Saawariya. They are available from amazon.com.

Om Shanti Om is not released yet and it is expected to be region free.

I must say that I'm very happy with the quality of Saawariya, I'm used to very poor quality of DVDs from Bollywood (about Divx quality, bought lots of double/triple features from ebay - Ok they cost about 5$ each). So an increase in PQ especially for Bollywood movies is a real pleasure to me.
What I'm waiting for is some Aishwarya Rai movies (Devdas, Hum dil de chuke sanam, Dhoom 2) as I'm quite a fan. I think I'll need some mental institution to get back to normal life after seeing her in HD

Both Heyy Babby and Saawariya are a quantum leap in Bollywood PQ. However, Saawariya is better than Heyy Babyy. Hope this trend will continue.
