Well, I'm glad I held off of the Soda Pictures box from the UK!
Tell me Ghost Dog does not have forced subtitles. Please let there be no forced subtitles!

It is VERY rare that DE Blu-rays have forced subtitles. English subtitles might not be included but it's a safe bet that there won't be forced subtitles.

The German release of Limits of Control did the subtitles very nicely - no forced ones and optional English subs for the non-English bits. Very pleased I didn't buy the UK box.

AWESOME news! I will be getting this set for sure. Totally unexpected and a wonderful announcement.

I kinda wish it didn't have to say 'Complete' though. As I haven't heard anything to say he will stop making movies. It is, technically, a complete set at this time though... rather amazing.

Amazon uploaded new cover art (see first post in this thread).
On the golden sticker it says "BONUS-DVD: Year of the Horse".
It's a pity that they used a DVD for this film.

Given that the set just has a DVD for that film, I think I will pass on this set. It isn't really "complete" anyway as he has no plans to retire, AKAIK.

Permanent Vacation (1980) (will soon be available from Soda in UK as a Standalone Blu-ray)
Stranger Than Paradise (1984) (will soon be available from Soda in UK as a Standalone Blu-ray)
Down by Law (1986) (Criterion Blu-ray)
Mystery Train (1989) (Criterion Blu-ray)
Night on Earth (1991) (will soon be available from Soda in UK as a Standalone Blu-ray)
Dead Man (1995) (will soon be available from Soda in UK as a Standalone Blu-ray -- already has a US standalone too)
BONUS-DVD: Year of the Horse (1997) (As it's just a DVD, this is no big selling point)
Ghost Dog - Der Weg des Samurai (1999) (Has a French Blu-ray, with locked subs. If Germany get's a standalone edition following this set's release, I'll pick up that on it's own).
Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) (already has foreign Blu-ray standalone editions)
Broken Flowers (2005) (already has foreign Blu-ray standalone editions)
The Limits of Control (2009) (already has a German Blu-ray edition, likely identical to what is in this set)
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) (available in many countries already)

So I see no real reason to own this, especially for those of us who already own several of these.

I'm concerned about languages and subtitles in the Arthaus set - at least two of the films (Mystery Train and Night on Earth) have plenty of foreign language dialogue, and I suspect there will be NO English subtitles. Is anyone able to clarify? The UK box set may be of use after all...

Word is, a standalone for this one released by now in Poland. Cant really confirm that, though.
Also, I've no glue subs being mandatory on this one

Had a quick look through the discs.
Discs default to English language/no subs. Except Only Lovers which appears to be faulty as all soundtracks are Dolby Digital, not lossless.
No English Subs for any films except Limits which is as previously issued.
Broken Flowers and Limits are as previously issued but with new disc/cover art.
Early films are lossless stereo.
All discs in slimline cases with reversible covers without the FSK logo on one side.
Thin booklet in slipcase in German.
All prints are English (no German film titles).
All discs except Mystery Train and Night On Earth have extras.
Year Of The Horse is a DVD.
Bit rates are high, typically high 20s, mid 30s.

This is a little confusing but I imagine you're saying the problem with OL is that all soundtracks on that disc are DD, not the entire set.

Please report back on PQ if you can. Very tempted to import this still.

Quite right, poorly phrased by me, I'm amazed I managed English in view of the state I was in. I only had time to have a quick look through the discs to check for forced subs. Only Lovers looks pretty much the same as the UK but the sound is gimped. The others showed no signs of excessive tampering, with some very heavy grain present in some titles. I watched Ghost Dog and I'd say a definite step up from the DVD, some shots looked very grainy but were followed by cleaner shots so I'd say that's how the film was made.

Please dont say it like "grain" = uncleaner than "no grain".
Wheter one's to like it or not, its actually the other way round, if anything. (Thats only when shot on film, naturally)

Speaking of noise, you're totally right then of course

Shame that sound issue happened on this one exactly.
(Cant judge myself, though. Waiting for a proper Ghost Dog standalone, myself, dont think I'll buy this set.)

BTW, I wonder what Jim Jarmusch thinks of this artwork.
I thought Andy Warhol visited Angela Jolies hairstylist,
taking the lead in Dangerous Liasons - Chapter 2

The box says English or German DTS-HD MA 5.1 but the disc menu simply says 5.1 or 2.0 and when the disc is playing my Oppo gives the following options:
1 German Dolby Digital Stereo
2 German Dolby Digital 5.1
3 English Dolby Digital Stereo
4 English Dolby Digital 5.1
5 German Dolby Digital Stereo
Maybe the player's misidentifying the tracks, though I can't remember it doing that before and I don't have a blu ray drive in the computer so I can't do a disc scan.

According to Bluray-disc.de the single disc release only has DD audio:
Deutsch DD 5.1
Deutsch DD 2.0
Deutsch (Hörfilmfassung) DD 2.0
O-Ton DD 5.1
O-Ton DD 2.0

I assume the one in the boxset is identical.
