United Kingdom Super Mario Bros- Summer 2014

Per Blu-ray.com, Second Sight Films is planning to bring the Super Mario Bros film to Blu-Ray in summer 2014. Not much is known about the release at this time. However, the good folks at fansite SMBmovie.com posted this shortly after the news broke:

Quote:
IT'S OFFICIAL--SUPER MARIO BROS. WILL BE RELEASED ON BLU-RAY IN SUMMER 2014!

We are pleased to announce that Super Mario Bros. will be released on Blu-Ray in Summer 2014! The distributor is Second Sight Films, a UK group known for their work on cult horror and sci-fi films. The SMB Movie Archive is working with Second Sight on some important aspects of this release.

Second Sight is a distributor that has been praised for their excellent remastering of films as well as their production of new bonus features. Both are planned for Super Mario Bros.

Check back for the latest on this exciting development! Looks like trusting the fungus all these years has finally paid off!
I know there are some fans of this movie out there. Let's keep this thread updated with news as we hear it and general discussions of the film.

And, as always, trust the fungus.

I'm actually very fond of this movie Love the sets and world, the Bob-omb with the Reeboks and of course that Roxette song. Also something about the delivery of the line 'It's Brooklyn!' from Dennis Hopper in this scene always cracks me up.

Will gladly pick up the BD if there are some cool features on the disc.

Well, at least the production team tried to adapt SMB into a movie all those years ago, even though it didn't turn out to great.

One of the greatest films off our time. We are all honoured to witness Bob Hoskins playing a fat plumber from Brooklyn.

I could'nt get into the cinema fast enough when this came out i was jumping up and down on my brothers head as we waited in line and stuffing my mouth with foam mushrooms. As we got to our seats i was sweating, my grip tightening on my 10" no slip spanner.
As the lights dimmed and the film started i was unsure weather to stay. My eyes fixated on this wonder, this film. To this day i'am not sure weather i was worthy to see this film.
When the film ended no one said a word. Me and my brother just looked at each other i could see the tears of happiness in his eyes, we both knew we had witnessed untold greatness.

Now, 2014! I can finally allow a worthy blu-ray of Super Mario Bros into my life.

I think he might have been choking on a hard-boiled sweet mate. You were obviously high on foam mushrooms.

Great news! And really good to see other fans of this movie. Yeah it was a bad adaptation but the film does stand as an extremely fun one. Will definitely pick this up on Blu.

Same here, I try not to think of it as an adaptation of SMB and just a stand alone exercise in goofy 90s fun lol

There was some discussion on this release within the Second Sight thread, but I'm glad to see it receiving more attention under its own topic.

As I mentioned before, I work for the Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive and am consulting with Second Sight on the bonus features. I have high hopes that this will be the definitive edition of the film for all fans around the world.

Saw this twice at the cinema back in the day. Rose tinted glasses will be required when the blu ray is released!

Since you're working on the release itself, can you advise as to whether or not this will be Region A compatible?

I don't think he has any say or knowledge about that, but considering it's Second Sight, most likely to be Region B.

The Super Mario Bros film archive is working closely with Second Sight and according to their Facebook profile there will be several new features including cast and crew interviews. Apparently they tracked down some deleted scenes only to discover that the production company, Lightmotive, threw most of the unused scenes out in a liquidation back in 2011. When I get home later I'll post a few more of the news updates from their Facebook profile, also sounds like there is a small chance it's going to be region free afterall.

They seem to be going all out in this release. It's a shame about Thunderbolt and lightfoot though, I was really looking forward to seeing some extras.

Hoping it's region-free. It can't be the "definitive edition for all fans around the world" if it's locked to one region.
