Warner Bros Dune: Part Three (ᑐ ᑌ ᑎ ᕮ ³)

‘Dune: Part Two’ New Trailer Shows Timothée Chalamet And Zendaya In Revenge Mode
Patrick Hipes - June 29, 2023

Warner Bros on Thursday released a new trailer for Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve’s second pic in a planned three-film saga based on Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel. The Warners/Legendary Pictures pic is set to hit theaters November 3, 2023.

Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani in the film, which picks up after the events of the first Dune, which bowed in 2021 and grossed more than $402 million at the global box office.

Also back in the cast is Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Stellan Skarsgård, joined by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux.

3 films for 1 novel almost seems like pushing it but Dune is an excessively long novel so it should be fine.

Well they got 3 films out of The Hobbit, and extended movies to boot.

Part Three was originally supposed to cover the second book, unless that's changed. Parts 1 & 2, Book 1, Part 3 Book 2.

Yeah, that was my understanding.

When Part 1 was released, WB was holding off on green-lighting Part 2 of the adaptation of the first book on the condition of how well Part 1 performed.

I was under the impression that up until now, Villeneuve was interested in adapting Dune Messiah but it was kind of a "that would be nice, but we'll see".

Now that there's talk of a Part 3 it makes me wonder if plans for an adaptation of Messiah have firmed up.

The alternative is that the second half of the first novel is being broken up into two parts, but to me that would make the truncating of some of the characters in Part 1 an odd choice. Plus, the first trailer for Part 2 showed a scene of Feyd and Paul squaring off in a knife fight and this one shows a confrontation between the Emperor and Paul which you would think would those be in the final part of adaptation for the first book.

It’s not one book, Villeneuve said he wanted to make Dune Messiah after Part Two.

Based on some scenes in the trailer, I feel pretty confident Part 3 would be Messiah.

There may be a few subplots/characters that the first novel introduces that are held back a bit for dune Part 3, but it should essentially be Messiah.

They likely will simply call the film "Dune: Part Three" to not confuse general audiences who have no experience with what parts of the story are in which of the two books.

Has this been confirmed by the studio and filmmakers themselves?

Villaneuve has indicated on more than one occasion that the box office results of Part Two will influence the decision to greenlight Part Three, but I think that Legendary and Warner are already seeing signs that this second film should surpass the box office of the first film.

That’s exciting but I hope he makes Rendevous with Rama next which he has also been attached to.

I like Dune part 1 and will see these films. But usually the sequel doesn't do as well as the first film, as it doesn't have the novelty of those curious to see what the new version is about with the first film for many franchises in general.

The 2nd film, it's already known what style to expect, so unless those who saw it in theaters all liked it, there is going to be some potential drop-off in the audience attendance; or on the other hand, potential increase in audience numbers if there are plenty of positive reviews for the first. Which there are. Along with many Academy awards trophies to hype it up even more.

So the sequel hopefully does well with that in mind.

A 3rd Dune film, I was not expecting that. Hopefully part 2 earns a good profit. Sadly, no 3D version planned I hear.

Dune Part 2 (the film) is still the first book. As has already been said, the proposed third film would be the second book called Dune Messiah. Stupid Deadline jumped the gun by writing that shitty click bait headline.

This doesn't surprise me.
Going into the first movie, I wasn't excited about it. I've always really enjoyed the version from the 80's so I just wasn't in a hurry to "replace" it.

Now, having SEEN the first movie, I really want to watch the next one.

I haven't read that book in a long time.

but...isn't it kinda boring?

Astronauts rendezvous with a very large cylindrical extra terrestrial space ship and essentially become members of a human zoo while exploring said space ship?

I don't remember a whole lot of "action" in it. it's a setup story to a series of books.

I wonder if and how
[Show spoiler] Villeneuve will include Jessica because it would be strange if she was absent in the third (and presumably last) part.

He might do it.
[Show spoiler] There's supposed to be 12 year gap between the first novel and the second one, so he might decide to do another movie while the cast gets older a little bit.

I don’t know about people being turned off by the “same style”. With the exception of Ant-Man 3 that hasn’t seemed to really hurt the homogenous Marvel movies and their sequels.

There were several people here who complained about Part 1 being too slow and boring. I could see many of them not returning to the theatre for Part 2.

But the box office for Part 1 was a bit hobbled by WB doing a same-day streaming release on Max. I don’t pretend to know what Part 2 will do at the box office but I would be surprised if it was less than Part 1.
