Default How often do you watch movies with other people and where does your preference lean?

The second part of the questions asks if you generally prefer watching movies alone or with friends/family. It's not a question about strangers at cinemas. Almost nobody likes those. Also, do you desire company more when you go out to watch a movie?

It's been a very long time since I have seen a film with others.

I usually watch a movie by myself - it just happens that way. I don't really mind that fact.

I don't like watch movies alone. If there's no one around I'll find myself something else to do.
This year I've probably watched alone only one movie (and then re-watched it with my daughter few days later).

I went to a movie theater alone only once in my life (Captain Amercica: First Avenger) when my wife was in a hospital.
Didn't like the experience, not going to do that again.

I never watch movies with other people, I prefer to not have any distractions. I also don't go out to watch movies, everything I watch is on Blu-ray or DVD at home.

But I do enjoy talking about movies after I've watched them. My brother and I frequently watch the same movie within a few hours or days of each other and talk about it after we've both seen it.

I prefer watching movies by myself at home; the theatre if I'm the only one in it.

A great question, especially so far as your home theatre viewing goes. I've often wondered if most people here watch solo, with a spouse, friends, whatever.
I typically watch solo as my wife has no interest in watching movies in a darkened room with the volume perhaps just a bit too high for some reason. I wouldn't mind if she watched with me, but I htink our tastes are just too different anyway. Too many cowboys, zombies and black & white for her tastes.
I see movies as a solo event and I don't want any distractions which is why I rarely do movie theatres.

With the wife or kids 99% of the time.
Although I have no aversion to watching alone, or going cinema solo

In theaters? Only if there's a superhero movie (w/my younger brother) or some sort of historical/western movie (w/my Dad). At home? Not very often.

I go either way with cinema or home viewing, depending on the film. Who with? People who don't talk so much or spend half of it on their phone... and I mean at home. So basically more times than not, I'm alone since my lady and I refuse to watch anything with her 11 year old since he has an inability to sit still, not talk or make random noises the whole freakin time( and no he's not special needs, he's just a lil prick in training thanks to his real dad)... and she falls asleep 20 minutes into anything I show her. Yeah, real cinema enthusiasts.

when I watch movies with others I feel like I have to entertain them, and also I dont enjoy the awkwardness when theres a sex scene or a very emotional scene that resonates with me or with the person Im watching the movie with, so at home I always watch alone. When I go to movies, it really depends because sometimes its a lot of fun making a thing out of a cinema going, like afterwards going to a restaurant and elses, but thats usually for action and blockbusters. If I want to watch a foreign film or something a bit deeper, I definitely prefer to go alone. Also thats how I met my current GF, she saw me alone at the movies and thought I was very mysterious (which Im hilariously not, not at all, I wish, Im nearsighted so I make weird faces when I try to read something, she probably caught me on one of those glamorous moments and misinterpreted it). True story.

Good thread topic... I enjoy watching movies with others. But I also work nights, which leaves me up a lot of the night while the rest of the family sleeps even on my off days, and I watch a lot of movies during that time alone. I watch a lot of family/animated/blockbuster type fair with my wife and kids and I watch a lot of movies with my brother when we can get together to do it, but that's not as often as we'd like. As far as the theater, I used to have a HUGE hang-up with going by myself. I wouldn't do it. But over the last 3 years or so, I've gone to some alone, and it was fine, so no real preference there anymore (since you can't/shouldn't talk during the film anyway). Though, admittedly, I rarely go to the theater anymore. Don't enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger. And this coming from someone who used to go see anything I was remotely interested in at the theater (I worked at a movie theater back in high school and college summers so I could go for free).

50% with my wife, 50% without. The movies I watch without her are ones she has no interest in. This is in reference to movies watched at home. When I go to the theater, there is always someone with me. I haven't gone to a theater by myself since I was a teenager.

Alone, always, be it at home or at the thater. I don't "use" movies as a means to socialize.

I only watch movies alone when it's something I want to see that my wife has no interest in. My wife and I also have our designated movie day or night every weekend unless her work schedule gets in the way. A good friend of mine also comes over once every 4-6 weeks for a movie night and that's always fun.

I've been to the theater a handful of times by myself, but I definitely prefer to go with my wife or best friend.

I prefer to watch movies alone. Unless someone invites me to watch a movie with them.

My missus is often in the room when I'm watching films at home. I used to loathe distractions, but I've kinda grown fond of her occasional commentary, especially if I'm watching something really trashy.

I prefer to watch home entertainment by myself. My son talks too much if we watch together.

Before the pandemic I used to watch movies with other people almost every week. But now I pretty much watch by myself. Maybe every few months someone will want to go see a movie with me.
