I assume this would be a much cheaper show to produce taking place mostly on Earth in a “college” setting.

I had a feeling this would happen. Could be great. “Lower decks” has been my favorite entry from the new generation of Trek.

I'm open to this, hopefully it will be fun. Star Trek as a franchise is incredibly strong at the moment.

No confirmation on the time period setting yet, although there were certainly rumours about a 32nd century Academy show. But there have also been rumblings of a 25th century setting with legacy actors as instructors.

They could set it in one century and have flashbacks to an earlier time

If they set it pre-kirk then it would have something i'd have been interested in. But future Discovery with Tilly? The worst Star Trek character in history? HARD pass.

Imagine being a Star Trek fan & complaining about diversity. The show that famously included an Asian, a Russian, & a black woman as part of the main cast, the show that featured the first interracial kiss ever seen on network television. But no, diversity BAD.

Agreed. Tilly is the reason I still haven't managed to finish S3 of Disco, she's like the human equivalent of nails dragging down the chalkboard. I cringe every time she opens her mouth. A show killing character.

Imagine that sort of being my entire point?

Star Trek is already diverse and has been since the 60s. The fact that they have to specifically call that out as a required parameter for the show is what’s silly here.
