Default Opinions on a 4K / Blu-ray Region Free player

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the process of upgrading to 4K and I'm fairly certain I have my TV picked out (77" Sony A80J) but now I need to track down a solid soundbar and a region free 4K/Blu player. I know there are plenty to choose from but I was hoping to get recommendations as to which are worth the money as well as which ones would pair best with the A80J. Any opinions on players will be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I am only looking to do the Region Free specifically to play my Region B blu-ray discs.

Panasonic UB-820 is your best bet (it’s not region free from the factory just like every other UHD player)

I would recommend samsung q950a, as a soundbar.

I was leaning towards that player but on top of all of the positive, I also hear people say that its picky on certain region B discs that it chooses to play, it is prone to freezing and if your discs aren't "immaculate" and has even a speck of dust, then it will not play it. I've heard this from a few UB-820 owners which has started to turn me off from the player. Have you experienced this?

4K UHD Blu-ray Players are not region free direct from the manufacturer. You will have to install a mod to it. If you don't typically order a lot of region B & C Blu-rays or DVDs from all over the world, then you really don't need a region free mod. As far as the freezing is concern, it could happen with any player. You won't know until you get one. It's a chance that you're going to have to take.

I have quite a few region b discs so I was planning on getting the player from a place like 220 Electronics where it already comes region free. I hear that 4K players in general tend to have freezing issues. I would suppose if it gets bad, that's where the warranty would come into play.

Just a reminder all 4K UHD Disc are region free. U would only need a region free player if u have a region lock blu-Ray disc.

Yes. Understandable. The ONLY reason I would like a 4K player to be region free is to play region locked blu-ray's.

The Sony X800-M2 is a mod player that A220 sells.

No tone mapping feature like the Panny (more important for OLEDs vs LCDs), but Dolby Vision is manual on/off on Sony players, vs auto-detected on Panny, LGs, Oppo’s (out of production).
