Default I need some help

Well im thinking about making the jump to blu-ray sometime this week... But i am having 2nd thoughts...

I own a Samsung 1080i HDTV which we got 2 years ago....HD looks amazing, when watching ESPN HD its like being their and movies on the HD Channel look amazing. But i was wondering should i make the jump to HD? I currently also have a Phillips HD Upconversion DVD player and it looks alright, but i want clearer picture. So i wanted to ask the community if making the jump to blu is worth it. And if it is, would you mind putting a couple good titles down on the format. Thanks a lot for your help.

Def. make the jump! I thought up convert was "good enough" until I bought my PS3 last July. I bought Apacolypto on Blu and it Blew me away! All the Pirates of the Carabean are great PQ to show off and also any Disney Pixar movies are great. I have not bought a BD movie that I regret!

Since 99.9% of the members here own a Blu-ray SA player or PS3, I'm not sure this is the best place for an unbiased opinion. That being said, I'm glad I took the plunge.

Yes it will look & sound better then the HD channels your getting now, because there is lots of compression that the cable & satellite companies have to use to fit the programing into the limited bandwidth they have.

Good PQ Movies that I own & there are many more good ones out there, too:

Die Hard movies
POTC 1,2&3
Cars
Apocalypto
28 Weeks later
house of 1000 corpses
Letters for Iwo Jima
Close Encounter of the 3rd kind
The Patriot
The 5th Element (remastered)
The Queen
Casino Royale
Resident Evil: Extintion
Spiderman 1,2&3
The Simpsons
Ratatoule
Sunshine
3:10 to Yuma
BladeRunner

Yes it's worth it. Especially if you can hear the High-Def Audio.

Get the remastered 5th element and watch Milla Jovovich in High Def.... Perfect :P

Jump! Jump! Jump! But don't play these words in your head when you're out on the balcony.

I continue to believe that the PS3 will remain the best value and future proof of any Blu-ray player for some time.

While many new players will come with a full profile the prices will be high and may not have the added benefits currently in the PS3 today. Such as the built in WiFi.

Becasue it is also a gaming machine the onboard Memory and Cell Processor will load your movies faster than most stand alones.

We'll be here when you do make the jump to Blu. In the meantime, read as much as you can on this board. You'll learn a lot and make a better decision. I lurked for about 3 months before I bought my Panny30 and absolutely love it!

Like most others on here, I believed my up converting player was good enough. I ended up purchasing the BDP-S301 and was instantly hooked, so much so that I recently bought a PS3 as well, which I highly recommend. Actually, most people that have come to my place to watch a movie, left with plans to buy a blu-ray player. With that said...make the jump.

As far as movies go, see the movie section and read reviews on your favorite movies. I'd check out sunshine and 3:10 to yuma, particularly if you have a nice surround system.

Enjoy

If you get it at the sony-style store, and get the sony card, you get $100 credit on your first bill, so the 40gb PS3 is only $299 that way..... helps make the jump a little shorter!

Cool

I also have a 2 year old Samsung 1080i LCD. I decided to get the PS3 for watching Blu-Ray movies and video games. I would compare the upgrade to maybe listening to an mp3 audio file vs. a high resolution multi-channel super audio disc (which you can also do on the PS3).
