The Incredibles will be next (hopefully sometime in the next 12 months!). A Bugs Life and WALL-E 3D have still not been announced.

This is great. I thought Disney/Pixar were done converting their catalog titles to 3d?

Ratatouille was a very early conversion (done as an experiment, I believe).

It was an early one (I don't think it was an experiment as both the first Toy Stories had been done by then), but the fact they finished it, as well as doing Cars and announcing The Incredibles (after the cinematic run of The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Monsters, Inc and Finding Nemo) I think shows that they've just cancelled it for cinema.

Pixar have enough time and money to do all of theirs as it's much easier than Disney doing it for their 2D animations. So getting them done and re-releasing them straight to blu-ray seems like a low-risk strategy.

With only WALL-E and A Bug's Life to go (after the upcoming The Incredibles) I guess there's no reason to think we won't see them all.

EDIT: This is the quote that announced Ratatouille 3D back in 2010. I love that Brad Bird was there to run things past and was happy to try out slight changes -

Quote:
Ratatouille is one that we’re exploring doing [3D conversion on] and Brad Bird is very open to some changes, you know, some very subtle changes but slight reframings. If a character’s reaching forward and a pinky goes off screen, we’ll adjust the camera and the character a little bit to have the hand on. So that said, if the director’s open to minor modifications on a library title then that’s wonderful and we’re really excited about doing that.

I'm so excited for A Bug's Life in 3D, I'll replace my 2D copy straight away.

This is a pretty good movie, I'd be interested in seeing it in 3D.

Do we know the audio specs for this release? I was hoping it would be upgraded to 7.1. 5.1 is fine... but the specs on the site specify it has 16 bit / but the US original has 24 bit. I'd assume this is just an error on the site?

According to the French disc, it's DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio for 3D and the same disc for 2D, so 16-bit.

According to the French disc?

All of Pixar's latest remasters so far have been re-encoded in Dolby TrueHD. The specs on this site say so as well.

Well, my friend received the French disc today and that's what he said. Lest we note, we don't always get the same audio tracks as the US.

Perhaps ask him reconfirm? I've seen plenty of people not really take note unless they doublecheck, I've known people that assume all lossless is one format or the other. Just look at the Amazon audio specs for a lot of discs

what's interesting is that the US DVD edition the audio is EX matrix 6.1 The blu is uncompressed LPCM 5.1

'Cars' in it's first bluray incarnation had LPCM 5.1 but when the 3D release happened it featured the EX soundmix.

fingers crossed that if and when the US version happens the original mix is included, because it doesn't sound like it's on the French or UK bluray editions.

wait, what? the UK is encoded with the EX track ?? - what that means is that for some of us who have 6.1 surround sound set ups, sound comes directly behind the listener.

His exact words were; "On the 3D disc: DTS-MA 5.1 EX and stereo for English. DTS for French. The 2D disc is the same released as before, PCM for English and 5.1 French."

But there's a problem with that: there's no "DTS-MA EX". DTS calls theirs ES.

Dolby TrueHD (and Dolby Digital) use EX.

That was because you can't flag PCM for EX since it's a matrixed and non-discrete channel. You can flag Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.

Interesting note: LionsGate pre-decoded the EX track for The Descent and presented it as 6.1 PCM.
