Default The Lady of Heaven | Eli King

The Lady Of Heaven: Film about Prophet Muhammad's daughter pulled by Cineworld following protests and 'blasphemy' criticism

Quote:
Protests over The Lady Of Heaven have taken place in Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Bolton, Blackburn and Birmingham, with some saying it "disrespects the Prophet Muhammad" - however, free speech campaigners and critics of the decision have hit out at the film's "censorship".

I mean, I don’t see this thread going too well. That said, I see the “culture war” people are backing it, and I’m all for believing nothing is off limits, but I think the discussion around needs a little more nuance over “suck it up snowflakes” approach that it seems to attracting.

Yeah posting in this thread is the equivalent of playing minesweeper on hardcore difficulty. Got to be careful what to say and what not to. I didn't even know of this movies' existence until it popped up on the news very recently.

Indeed. I bet the filmmakers can't believe their luck.

Bad publicity is still publicity. It would make people want to see it to figure out what all the fuss is about, but being struck with bad luck that it's been pulled from theaters so people will be left wondering.

Why is The Lady Of Heaven so controversial? Protests across the UK and petition signed by 120,000 people lead to film being pulled from some cinemas

Quote:
The Lady Of Heaven depicts the story of Lady Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, and is billed as the first film ever to do so. The Sunni and Shia denominations of Islam have different views on this story, with critics of the film calling it "blasphemous".

We know why it's being pulled from cinemas but no one dares say it.

Seems absurd in this day and age that a petition and signatures etc can lead to a movie being pulled from cinemas. So much for free artistic expression/ free speech.

It’s setting a very dangerous precedent.
