Default A list of Blu-ray / DVD with CDS audio tracks?

Hello

I recently picked up the Terminator 2 R1 DVD with the CDS audio track and it blew my socks off. I've since picked up Dick Tracy R2 for the 51 CDS track, which I am hoping will be similarly fantastic.

I have a list here of all the known films that were released in cinemas with CDS audio (from Wikipedia) but does anyone know where these audio tracks can be found on Blu Ray and DVD releases, or even Laserdisc?

Maybe someone can help fill in these gaps as I'd be keen to pick these films up and collect them all (if they are any use).
  • Dick Tracy (1990) - CDS available on all DVD and Blu Ray releases to date.
  • Days of Thunder (1990) - ???
  • Flatliners (1990) - ???
  • Edward Scissorhands (1990) - ???
  • The Doors (1991) - ???
  • Hudson Hawk (1991) - ???
  • Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) - CDS available of the R1 Artisan DVD only.
  • For the Boys (1991) - ???
  • Final Approach (1991) - ???
  • Universal Soldier (1992) (Carolco) - ???
  • Sounds Like The Real World (YEAR?) - ??? Demo Film

I also collect CDS-releases and believe that if it has 5.1 (Edward 4.0) it is og-track.

On Universal Soldier, the review says
Quote:
what sounds to me almost like tape "wobble" afflicts the music underlying the Carolco logo on both the 1080p and 2160p versions
If they have remade the soundtrack, they would have get rid of that wobble.

Thanks for that. I updated the list.

I have in my collection so far:

Terminator 2 (Artisan DVD)
Final Approach (Vidmark Laserdisc)
The Doors (Lionsgate 15th Anniversary DVD)
Dick Tracy (UK PAL DVD)

I'm going to get Hudson Hawk (Signal One Blu Ray) next I think. Then maybe the 4K Universal Soldier if the CDS audio is confirmed.

I managed to get a USA Laserdisc edition which is on the way to me. Keen to check out the audio on that one and maybe compare it to the Signal One Blu Ray some day.

Many of these CDS mixes were also ports of 70mm Dolby Stereo six track mixes (which is like modern 5.1 and had discrete rears and LFE). Some CDS mixes for smaller pictures like Edward Scissorhands and Hudson Hawk were the discrete 4 channel mixes in a 5.1 container (with the rear channel duplicated to two and sometimes a generated LFE channel).

By way of update I received Final Approach, Hudson Hawk and also the AC-3 THX edition of Apocalypse Now. All 3 titles on the beautiful format that is Laserdisc of course.

Final Approach sounds absolutely superb. Even the open credits are great. It even makes the effort to put the CDS logo on the disc sleeve! I did have to up the volume a little, but it isn't an issue.

Hudson Hawk makes no mention of CDS on the sleeve but it is Dolby Digital Surround. No idea if it is 4.0, but I did notice great use of surround effects and the rear channels. I think it's reasonable to at least speculate that CDS was used here in some capacity. I'm not knowledgeable enough though. All I can say is that it sounds really nice and very clear. Not squashed and narrow.

Last is unrelated but I had to get it. The THX AC-3 Apocalypse Now set is supposed to sound very good.

So I bought a copy. Chucked it in to the Laserdisc player. Demodulator powered on. Straight to Side 1, Chapter 6. Flight of the Valkyries.

Umm.....yes. yes it does sound great. Very great. Possibly on a par with, or perhaps slightly better than the recent Dolby Atmos Final Cut 4K disc! I'm glad to have both discs to shatter my eardrums with!
