Default Some tidbits for PS3's PQ and SQ

1) When you play standard DVD, please turn off noise reduction on DVD player software settings. If you turn on these settings, PQ of standard DVD tends to somewhat dull.

2) If possible, please don't use wireless LAN and Bluetooth devises. As for the standard controller, used by USB connection is preferable. These oscillations interferes inside video and audio signal slightly. But there will be almost no influence in the case of a gaming.

3) If you have a receiver capable HDMI 1.1 or later, please use HDMI for sound transfer, and please check off stream output(DD, DTS, AAC etc.). Sound quality through PS3's internal PCM decoder and transfer in linear PCM is better than that of stream output.

4) Horizontal setting is clearly more preferable to vertical setting. If you have proper insulatores, using them are effective. If possible, get rid of the side cover of internal hard drive.

(There is an established reinforcement method for body. I'm sorry I cannot express it in English precisely. However, I intend to ask the designer for this description in English.)

SCE is making a continuous effort to improve a picture and sound quality of PS3. I've heard next upgraded video/sound driver and player software will offer until the end of this year.

So you are saying there will be an update to the firmware before 2007? I hope they add upscaling.

Yes, I've heard so.
Next player software will support YUV color decode instead of RGB decode on BR play. But I don't know yet whether next player to have DVD upscaling function or not, and whether to have capability of DTS-MA decode or not.

Thanks for the info. Couple of questions:

You said:

What do you mean by proper insulatores? And what does removing the side cover of the internal hard drive accomplish (better picture somehow)?

There are some pictures reinforcing PS3's body. Sorry these explanations are Japanese.

The designer of this reinforcement is Mr.Takashi Kanai, the senior designer of Sony corp., who had designed TA-DA9000ES/9100ES/7000ES series receivers.

Looks like they are using thick double sided tape and feet cushions as the insulation. Is this to stop some kind of vibrations?

And it shows.

Believe me: When you see the PS3, pick it up and feel its weight? It's a damned well built machine.

I was impressed to turn the machine on at launch and see a nice hefty firmware 1.10 download right off the bat. I'm very confident in the kind of support we're going to see for this machine.
