Martin Scorseses All-Time Classic of Life Inside the Mob

In 2000, GoodFellas was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the US Library of Congress.

Scorsese was awarded the Silver Lion Award for Best Director in Venice. Robert De Niro received wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy The Gent Conway, and Joe Pesci, as the volatile Tommy DeVito, walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar®. This film is the Evil Dead of blu-ray releases. I would finally pick it up with a new transfer.

If they don't finally release a new transfer for this, I don't know what to say.

I'll probably end up buying it anyway but I am really hoping for a new transfer and lossless audio, as is pretty much everyone else I assume.

The only way in hell I would ever buy this again is IF it's mastered in 4K or giving some sort of remaster treatment and lossless audio. If this only contains a few new extras like interviews or whatever along the same ole video and audio, it will be Warners, or for that matter, any studios most epic fail since BD was introduced.

This has to be a brand new transfer and finally Dts HD 5.1 audio or I can't imagine Scorsese being involved without this film finally getting its due.

After all of these re-releases, it (new scan) has to happen at some point especially with 4K Blu to be released in a year.

I can see Warner giving us lossless audio but no remaster but I hope I'm wrong.

Even if they have a 4K scan of Goodfellas, it's still not certain that they will release it. Remember A Clockwork Orange.

Hell, it's even possible that much like the 40th anniversary edition of A Clockwork Orange, they will include 4K clips of Goodfellas in this newly announced bonus featurette/s, but still have the ancient transfer for the main feature to troll us extra hard.

I'm picturing this edition to be packaged similarly to the recent Blazing Saddles release from last year.

But 4K finishes for "newer" titles are also few and far between unless you're Sony (who are getting more apathetic to physical media by the day), so just where will the titles come from if not the back catalogue?

That most certainly is an issue. Is there any word in the industry about finishing more new films in 4K? I doubt there will be a ton of titles on the format regardless, but I'd like to be wrong.

I'd love a new master, but like so many, I have my doubts considering the amount of repackages the industry does all the time. With regard to 4K discs, that's going to be another 3D flop. Physical media is a dying breed. The compact disc should tell you that. Considering the emphasis these days on everything being a "service" or in the "cloud" from programs like Adobe Photoshop to streaming like Netflix, it's very apparent that even the collector may soon become a dying bread as well. Why get you to collect, when you'll have to rent a movie every time you want to see it like back in the days of VHS rental stores.

And what will happen when their grand illusions of streaming and cloud use fail due to the lack of network capability to support it ?

And how about the huge population of people who still live outside of broadband's reach ? I live just outside a very large city, which also happens to be home to TWC. Yet you go less than a mile down my road and there is no service available except for satellite, which is a joke.
