Default Hundreds of Beavers - bluray from Cartuna before 2024 ends

"Hundreds of Beavers" is a great comedy I saw during its brief theatrical release (I think it might even have been four-walled), very glad to hear that it's getting a blu-ray. From almost the same creative team as "Lake Michigan Monster". This was posted on the film's instagram page earlier today:

We are excited to announce our partnership with Cartuna for the Hundreds of Beavers North American Blu-Ray!

Cartuna is a cartoon company and indie film distributor focused on animation, puppetry, DIY art, and alt-comedy. They are launching their Blu-ray label this summer with their first two titles being NUTS! and Adam Green’s Aladdin. The founders, James and Adam Belfer, have been producers on films such as Strawberry Mansion, Prince Avalanche, Compliance, Like Crazy, Sylvio and the upcoming films OBEX and The Johnny Ryan Movie.

We are excited to spend the summer with James creating carefully crafted special features for our disc.

There will be other blu-rays releasing in other regions in the meantime, so while we’d love to be “first to market” in the world, we’re a small team and it takes time to get things the way we like them.

Release date? Late this year is our target. We will make more announcements about special features, editions, and distribution in the coming months.

But for now, we’re going to get to work. Thanks to the physical media community for your patience!

Disappointed it's not coming sooner, but I'll definitely be grabbing it whenever it's out ~

And then a 4K will be out in a year, I'm sure.

This film is an absolute joy and I'm ecstatic it's getting a proper stacked Blu-ray. I'm probably more excited for this than any other films coming to disc this year.

If you're a fan of animation, silent comedy, or even Zelda/Mario style video games, this is going to be a lot of fun. There's even deliberate nods to the work of Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati, and Karel Zeman.

I wouldn't worry about a 4K edition any time soon, given it was shot and produced in 1080p.

I had somewhat mixed feelings about this film. It was incredibly creative visually and had lots of fun moments. But the cartoon-like/Three Stooges intensity of the craziness was a bit much for a feature-length story, for me at least.

Like cartoons or the Three Stooges, I think I might have enjoyed this more if it was four shorts done in the same style, but with distinct and different story lines.

Definitely worth seeing though, and I also really enjoyed his previous film, the Lake Michigan Monster.

For this movie??? Monty Python and the Holy Grail better get 4K before this does (which is likely never).

Not putting this down, it sounds bonkers, and when I watched the trailer in the UK release story I said I imagined Bob and Doug McKenzie’s voices doing a narration for this movie.

Just bought the digital version on Amazon for $7.99. That'll do until the Blu arrives.

Hopefully this new distributor will release this disc pressed and not on a BD-R

I can understand this. I went to a packed local screening last night and while I thought it was hilarious, about halfway through I started wondering when it was going to end. But the payoff of the last 15-20 minutes was so good that my rating for the film shot back up to 9/10. Zaniest movie of the year.

I agree with this, there's a dip in between
[Show spoiler] the very late opening titles
and
[Show spoiler] the hero infiltrating the beavers' dam/fortress
where you start to think "Is it really just this for another hour?" If I were going to suggest cuts to the team that made it, it would probably be during this section, but even at it's worst, I was enjoying it, and the final sequence is the high point of the film.

For a second, I thought this was a Naked Gun spinoff.

After seeing a few high rankings for this movie in the 2024 Rankings thread, I started watching it on Hoopla. Holy cow, I'm having such a great time with it.

this is one of those movies that I didn't *love* (it does drag in the middle) but I will absolutely be buying the blu ray because I can imagine re-watching the last act multiple times, and I'm fascinated by the production of the whole thing.

I watched this again last week, this time with my family. Everyone loved it. And they had the same "Is the movie...really like this...for the whole movie?" thought as I had. Such a joy to watch, and I forgot just how funny the "J'ACCUSE!" part is. I would LOVE to see this in a theatre with a ton of other people. I never thought it dragged in the middle as others have said.

I'm totally buying the Cartuna bluray when it comes out.
