Default The Asterix movies

I've officially become a fan of Asterix, the French comic book character, and it's a shame his popularity hasn't reached America the same way other countries have.

But now that Severin has created a Kids sublabel, maybe now's a good time for the original Asterix films to make their Blu-ray debut Stateside through them or Shout! Factory if the former aren't able to work something with Gaumont and StudioCanal. Maybe even have Shout! distribute the post-94 films.

While I can import the Canadian Blu-rays of the first 3 films (or just order them from the US Amazon store), they're 720p and I think are PAL/25fps sourced. Better treatment is required.

I adore Asterix & Obelix: Missie Cleopatra. I'd buy that one in a heartbeat if it had either english or dutch subtitles.

I'm thinking of getting the german version, since I can read a bit of german and it's not like this is Shakespeare or anything.

Bump.

Since I have, I compiled a list of the rights owners for the Asterix films:

-MediaToon owns worldwide rights to the first 3 films; Asterix The Gaul, Asterix and Cleopatra, and The Twelve Tasks of Asterix

-Gaumont owns worldwide rights to Asterix Vs. Caesar and Asterix In Britain while also holding international rights to Asterix and The Big Fight

-Extrafilm Produktion GmbH (and maybe StudioCanal, not sure) own North American rights to Asterix and The Big Fight and now apparently rights worldwide to Asterix Conquers America (Fox/Disney used to own French, UK, and Spain rights). US streaming rights currently (co-)owned by Shout! Factory.

-SND Groupe M6/M6 own worldwide rights to Asterix and The Vikings, Asterix: The Mansions of The Gods, and Asterix: The Secret of The Magic Potion

For live-action films:

- Pathe own the first 3 films; Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar, Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, and Asterix at the Olympic Games

- Wild Bunch/IMR International own Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia

- SND Groupe M6/M6 own Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom.

While I do want Severin (Kids) to do a box set of the first 7 films, it looks like the idea of Shout! releasing all the animated films is a better bet since they have the streaming rights to Big Fight and Conquers America and have connections with ExtraFilm/StudioCanal along with SND Groupe through The Jungle Bunch Movie. All that's left is to make a deal with MediaToon and Gaumont for the first 5 films.

StudioCanal posted this trailer a couple of days ago...featuring Asterix Conquers America:

That should tell you they have something planned...
