Default Peter Weir films

So far no love at all for Peter Weir films in 4K from the rights holders. I really wish they would release new 4K scans of
Master and Comander
The Truman Show
Fearless
Dead Poets Society
Mosquito Coast
Witness
The Year of Living Dangerously (not even a good BD is available!)
Gallipoli
The Last Wave
Picnic at Hanging Rock

iTunes has a nice 4K Dolby Vision version of Witness. Better than nothing…

Yeah from that I only really care for Master and Commander. And perhaps Gallipoli I'd give a shot again. But that, of all them, is a fat chance for 4k UHD. I've been really disappointed no boutique has sprung up for Australian movies licensed on this format.

I'd love to see Man From Snowy River, if nothing else, scanned again, graded for HDR, and mixed for atmos.

Picnic at Hanging Rock is likely to come at some point. Pretty easy that one.

I was not aware of the streaming options. The transfers look good. Discs, please!

Weir should be on the same shelf as Kurosawa and Kubrick and Lean. The fact that there are no 4k versions anywhere is a crime. Fearless, Witness, Gallipoli, Master & Commander, Mosquito Coast and Witness are all some of my favorite movies of all time (Gallipoli is Bridge on the River Kwai good). It breaks my heart

Witness is the only really solid "maybe" just because of Harrison Ford.
He's an immensely great director, and the new remaster of Last Wave is very nice. Will most sell on a niche market like 4K? Probably not. But they'll end up on 4K streaming or download someday.

I'd think Truman and Witness and maybe Master and Commander as the most likely from the studios and then maybe Criterion could do Picnic at Hanging Rock or Gallipoli

UHD? There is no US Blu release for The Last Wave, Gallipoli, YOLD and MC. And let’s not forget The Cars That Ate Paris! It’s mind-boggling that so much trash is continually re-released, and Weir simply has disappeared from view.

Weir is in his seventies, and one could argue his audience and interest in his work has aged out with him. He has released two films in the past 20 years, the last a box office flop 12 years ago. It’s a shame, because he’s an incredible talent who without question has one of the strongest filmographies of the last 50 years, and I’d buy every one of his films in UHD.

My favorite Peter Weir film, my favorite Mel Gibson film, and certainly one of my favorite Sigourney Weaver films (Alien obviously is tops). Maybe Arrow or BFI will give it a 4K release eventually, apparently the US market is only interested in Harrison Ford and Russell Crowe (speaking as an avid Patrick O'Brian reader).
