An all-time favorite for me. The theatrical re-releases of this and Le Samourai in the 90s mark the moment when film took over my life.

Raro's BDs tend to be sketchy. Hope they don't go crazy with the scrub tools like they did with the Di Leo sets.

Hopefully, there's a new restoration. I own the Arrow UK release and it could use improvement.

Amazing film! Although I have to admit, I needed a second viewing to really get it. Not because it was complicated or anything but because it bounces around so much tonally between very real drama and broad comedic satire (and several steps in between). Not having watched a lot of European cinema, I had to grow up a little before I could accept all that. Visually scrumptious though. It stayed with me and called me back eventually.

I would think it is the couple of years old restoration by Cineteca di Bologna which looks great and had the involvement of Storaro (and no 2:1!).

But the disc from Raro Italy is a piece of shit. So I hope the US people don't try to "improve" on the restoration the way the Italian guys did.
