New cover by Michael Boland
Quote:
In this deeply personal tale of estrangement and reconciliation between two rebellious brothers, set in a dreamlike and timeless Tulsa, Francis Ford Coppola gives mythic dimensions to intimate, painful emotions. After releasing the classically styled The Outsiders earlier the same year, the director returned to the work of S. E. Hinton, this time with a self-described “art film for teenagers.” Graced with a remarkable cast headed by Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, and Diane Lane; haunting black-and-white visuals that hark back to German expressionism and forward to Coppola’s own Tetro; and a powerful, percussive score by Stewart Copeland that underscores the movie’s romantic fatalism, Rumble Fish pulsates throughout with genuine love and dread.

My favorite Criterion release for April, just wish they'd gotten new interviews with Dillon, Rourke and Lane. Hell, a new interview with Cage would've been great! No more carping because the new extras look good and I can't wait to see the transfer of what I consider to be one of Coppola's most visually striking films, all the more beautiful in b&w.

It is a great looking film, and Coppola repeated many of its visual ideas years later with Tetro.

Going to get this one since I've seen screenshot comparisons from the Eureka release. Will get this one but I loathe the cover. Any chance for someone to use the original poster artwork for a custom cover? Wish they offered the original poster art on the reverse i.e. Shout!/Scream! and Arrow.

Yes! I heard so many great things about this from colleagues that I need to see it. Perfect timing to check it out on BD.

Any major differences from the above to this Criterion? Of course besides the 4K transfer and the carry-overs.

You mean besides all the interviews and the documentary listed in the first post?

I hadn't seen this in a long time so I rented it on Amazon to see if i still like it. Luckily it still holds up for me. The photography is amazing and I forgot how good of a screen presence Mickey Rourke used to be. I'll most likely wait for the July sale to buy this though.

I'll get it. The only post 70's film Coppola made that I'd say is pretty close to the quality of those masterpieces.

Be funny if the artist who did the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo cover art also did this one.
