Default Super Mario 3D All Stars (Super Mario Galaxy, Sunshine, 64)

I see It's already mentioned in the main thread but could do with its own I think. Eurogamer updated their article with a few more corroborations too which has got my hopes up for this one. Never played Galaxy or Sunshine.

Quote:
After an initial leak set the floodgates open yesterday, new details have been published on how Nintendo's upcoming array of Mario games old and new will actually be released.

There's a little more, too, on the Switch's new Paper Mario game, which has yet to be announced by Nintendo itself.

Venturebeat reported that the three 3D Mario remasters would be offered in a collection, dubbed something like "Super Mario All-Stars 2". This is branding Eurogamer has heard of being used internally.

Eurogamer confirmed Mario Galaxy was one of these games yesterday, following suggestion in VGC's original report. A later report from Gematsu confirmed Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine as the two other titles.

As well as this collection pack, VGC's initial report suggested "most" of Mario's back catalogue would be brought to Switch.

Well, as Eurogamer explained yesterday, Super Mario 3D World is getting a Deluxe release with new content. And there has been suggestion that other, older Mario games not already on the Switch Online's retro library might be added there.

If this is actually real, you have to hope that they fixed Sunshine.

There are so many things wrong with it. For example the Pachinko level, which is basically unplayable. There is also one tiny level that you have to get to using several boats, and which takes over 5 minutes. The level is a river that you pass along and you have to collect red coins, if I remember correctly.
Problem is: fail to get a single coin or die and there are no retries, you have to get there AGAIN using Yoshi and boats. It's okay when you are using an emulator which is capable of save states, but when you are playing it on real hardware, you will go crazy.

When I think of Sunshine I first think of the very first level, which was great, and then I remember all the mess that came after it. I think they rushed it out of the door and in my opinion it's the worst Nintendo Mario platformer. Other people like it.

You can play Sunshine on Wii U and the Wii U controller doesn't have analog triggers either. It doesn't control perfectly, but it works.
At the same time you can connect an original gamecube controller to the Wii U and use that. And that adapter works on Switch too.

When the original Super Mario All*Stars was released in 1993 for the 16 bit Super Nintendo, it included four games: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3. (A later release in 1994 or 1995 added Super Mario World bringing the total to five games)

With Super Mario 3D All*Stars for the Nintendo Switch, you would have thought that Nintendo would have wanted to include four games to match the 1993 original Super Mario All*Stars.

Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2

It's just so odd they didn't include Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I really hope they do some sort of Super Mario Galaxy 2 release for the next console. I agree, it sucks that game was ignored on the Switch.

I know it's easy to get carried away in there. I just keep thinking that what if some new blood comes along to see if there's a thread for something they want to talk about and not see it because it was talked about 5 pages ago in the main thread then they might just leave and never come back.

I think new news, new thread is a good policy but it's up to whoever wants to make threads I guess some people just like to keep things all in one place.

I had Sunshine as a kid and would've been happy if only that were getting an HD remaster but Galaxy too? Can't get better than that. I never got to play Galaxy because I somehow never had a Wii while growing up. I've always wanted to play it though. I'd buy all of these individually but a collection would be fantastic.

They definitely can't include one Galaxy game without the other. My only question is, how are they going to replicate the Wiimote controls on the Switch version? How will you be able to easily collect Star Bits without a cursor on the screen?

My guess is split Joycons for the authentic experience and hold a button and use the gyro for handheld or playing with Pro controller.

When do you guys think this game will be announced? I’m very hyped and hope this rumor is 100% true.

I would expect a May/June reveal if its true since it was allegedly planned to be part of E3.

It's definitely the right idea and how we do things in the rest of the forum, we probably developed the habit with the traffic in this section being less than the Xbox and PS sections.

Presumably something like this would be a part of an E3 direct. But with COVID-19/E3 cancelled... who knows? Sometime in June or July is my guess.

As much as I would love for this to be true, I just cannot believe that Nintendo would package all of those in one cartridge for 59.99 rather than just sell them separately and make more money.

Its possible they put them all together for $60 if they are not reworked at all and are just basically the original games now at 16x9, 1080p60. I would expect Nintendo to sell that kind of port for $20 each anyway.

To be honest, that's really all you need to do. Change the AR to widescreen, polish up the textures, boost the framerate. Anything more would fundamentally alter the games.

Given that homebrewers have been able to do all those things with emulation for years, there's not excuse for Nintendo to not be able to do even better with the games' source code.

How would they get around the analog trigger controls of the FLUDD in Super Mario Sunshine?
