Default Robert Fripp - Exposure Box Set (5/27/22)

Steven Wilson did the surround mix for the album proper. I’ll be picking this up but this is a lot of music to get through.

I just ordered this. $200 at import CDs. That seems like a reasonable price. This era, and the rebirth of King Crimson that immediately followed it, are the most interesting ones for me. I really liked what Fripp did with Darryl Hall and Peter Gabriel.

It shipped this week. Should have it soon. I'm really interested to hear the loops that went into the making of My Life In The Bush of Ghosts.

I got it and ripped it. Haven't had a chance to listen to much yet, but there are two blu-rays with 67 hours of unreleased Frippertronics! I have a playlist of Brian Eno's ambient music that I use for sleeping and work, including Fripp & Eno's Evening Star and No Pussyfooting. This is like discovering a never ending cache of more. Plus, one of the Frippertronics live performances is mixed for multichannel. Can't wait to hear that. Lots of music in quadraphonic, 5.1 and Atmos. There's more unreleased music in this than any other box set I've ever seen.

I ripped the two blu-rays of Frippertronics and added them to my iTunes library. In total, there's 4.3 days worth of music in this box, and the majority of it has never been released before.

I just received mine yesterday. I was hoping Amazon would have dropped the price between pre-order & shipment but I paid full price. $272.59 including tax. Ouch! Now the painful ripping process begins. Not sure if I'll rip the Blu Rays or not. There is so much content that I'm scared to start on those.

I ripped the two Frippertronics blu-rays. The other two are duplicated by the CDs, as are the DVDs. There's about 50 sessions on the first disk, mostly around 30-40 minutes each. The second blu-ray has shorter tracks- about 85 tracks of an average of 8-10 minutes each.

There is a lot of variety within even a single loop track, and Fripp's musical sense is wonderful. The loops evolve, but they're not boring or slow moving. I don't care about tagging all the Frippertronics concerts by location and date. I'm just calling them 26-10 with the first number being the disk number and the second being the track number. It took a pretty long time to rip it to MKV, then I converted the tracks to WAV and labelled them. Then I pulled the WAVs into iTunes and made AAC versions. It took most of a day, but it's a great ambient music library for my media server now. There might be an easier way to convert than the way I did it, but Macs don't make things like this easy.

I'll end up ripping the Blu Ray's since there is a lot on those discs that is not available on the included cd's.

I recently finally tagged & imported the corrected files from the Heaven & Earth box and that was a huge pain so I'm in no hurry to go through that again!

Followup… Got an email from innerknot store on April 4th, and towards the bottom of the email was a picture of this Exposures big box.

Once I noticed it and thought about it for a few seconds, I clicked on the link and was surprised to see that their price was way better now (only $120) since the last time I'd looked probably a few months ago (where it had still been sitting at $205).

I'd been thinking about trying them as one last shot for a while now, so this was some sort of sign that I finally must do so. And did. (Burning Shed email from the same day indicated there were lots of KC catalog price drops that had kicked in.)

Got it today, and ooray-hay it's all good… on the outside anyway.

Nice.
