Default The Buddy Holly Story (1978) (Limited Edition to 3000) - OUT OF PRINT

PRE-ORDER http://www.screenarchives.com/title_...LY-STORY-1978/

Quote:
Music Never Felt This Good.

Gary Busey gives an electrifying, Oscar-nominated performance (Best Actor-1978) as Buddy Holly - the musical genius from Lubbock, Texas, who changed the tune of rock 'n' roll history. With a groundbreaking combination of country music and rhythm & blues, Buddy Holly and the Crickets (Don Stroud, Charles Martin Smith) catapulted to national stardom in just three short years with such hits as "That'll Be The Day," "It's So Easy," and "Peggy Sue." By the age of 22, Holly had it all: chart-topping singles, a beautiful wife, and international acclaim - until tragedy ended a brilliant career...but not his music. In an Academy Award-winning score adaptation, Busey sings Holly's greatest hits in this dynamic tribute to one of the most influential rock 'n' rollers of all time and the legacy he left behind

Dramas sell slow at TT, you should be fine if you keep an eye on the thread for when pre-sale goes live. I'm torn as I haven't seen this and want to, just not sure if $35 is the way to go. Guess I'll have to see if the library has the dvd first, that saved me from buying Used Cars which I probably would never re-watch.

EDIT: Love my library! I could go grab dvd now and watch tonight if I wish. I won't, but love the option being there like this.

Never seen this before but Im interested. Are there a lot of musical performances in this and how are they? If they are done well, I'll probably pick it up.

Even though, the real Buddy Holly was before my time, and was killed in a plane crash before I was born, The Buddy Holly Story was a good movie. This is one of Gary Busey's best performances!

Although Busey had been acting for some years before, this was his big breakthrough role into the mainstream, as he was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar as well as the Golden Globe.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie but are interested;

It's a fun and light movie (despite the ending), Busey looks and sounds nothing like Buddy, but he captures his spirit really well and you don't really notice the difference. This is no where near an accurate telling of Holly's life at all, which I've always found strange because the real story is far more interesting, but if you don't go in expecting that you should be able to enjoy it.

I'd love to pick this up. I remember seeing it countless times as a kid. It used to play as an weekend afternoon movie of the day on a local tv station a lot. It was never something I sought out, it was just always there, but I found myself just as interested with each viewing. Love Buddy Holly.

Might have to get this, Busey is great , and I've read the UK and Aussie import versions are crap.

Biopics and other true story movies, are never 100% accurate.

Wow, I didn't think Busey had that in him! Such a shame he fell on trouble as that was a stunning performance. Even more torn now that I've seen the flick. I don't see myself re-visiting much, but really enjoyed it and forgot how many awesome rocking tunes Buddy had (I get him mixed up with do-wop singers). If the BD has the commentary I'll probably bite.

I have the UK import of this, not the greatest transfer/sound but love the movie (was the first movie I saw when we first got HBO and I was a young kid who had never heard of Buddy Holly before. Became a huge fan!) Would like to see the specs but tempted to double dip.

You got that right! Other than Buddy being from Texas and dying in a plane crash, almost none of this film is true. HOWEVER . . . it's a favorite of mine. The performances are great, the music is played live (not lip-sync) and if it doesn't tell Buddy's real story, it captures the times and his spirit beautifully.

I watch it every February, around the anniversary of Holly's death.

If you want the facts, following a viewing of this movie, check out Paul McCartney's The Real Buddy Holly Story.
