Do you think it is possible to get this series released on BLU?
Cybill Shepard and Bruce Willis were great on this show. the U.S. DVDs are OOP, but not sure if Lionsgate lost the rights or if they just stopped producing the DVDs. With the good sales Lionsgate has had with the Little House on the Prairie series this show would be good candidate for a BLU upgrade. |

I got the complete set on DVD here in the UK around Christmas so a bluray release is probably just around the corner knowing my luck.
Also got the complete 3rd rock from the sun so that will probably be coming next... Personally the Bruce on Blu I want most is Look who's talking 1 + 2 but I agree Moonlighting has become an under appreciated show over the years and deserves more love so I would welcome a bluray release further down the line |

I’d LOVE to see this show as a complete series set on Blu. The poster above is so right, for a show that was a huge pop culture phenom while it was on the air (and one of the first true “water cooler” shows that everyone was talking about the day after it aired, WHEN there was actually a new episode, lol), it sure has fallen under the radar in recent years.
Carry over all the features from the DVDs, maybe some new ones, include ALL footage (some of the bumpers and teasers are missing from the DVDs, restore the correct music for “The Lady In the Iron Mask”, and include all the ABC promos, they’re really quite creative. But don’t alter or replace the music!!! That’s my greatest fear with a show like this. With all the (IMO) more obscure/niche TV series that get super deluxe treatment, it’s a shame that this important show constantly seems to get the short end. |

Oh yes make it happen Lions Gate!!! The dvd sets are very nice if cheaply made (Not the discs themselves, just the lousy packaging) but the visual and audio quality is good, with some great extras (commentaries, featurettes, documentaries, etc) to make it great. If Little House on the Prairie can gain a Bluray release, then so can this!!!

It was a great show. I'd like to see both this and Wiseguy with Ken Wahl...

I too would love this on blu-ray as it appears to have been filmed in 35mm. In addition to restoring the pre-title sequences they could also restore the second episode of the second season, "The Lady in the Iron Mask", with its music score from broadcast which includes the William Tell "Overture" during the chase scene at the end rather than the original score that was rejected and somehow found its way onto this set. "Anybody want to play Twister?!" ![]() I haven't watched these since they were first broadcast 1985-1989 and I was always in front of the TV waiting with baited breath for a new episode (only to be disappointed a lot of times when a rerun was being broadcast because they couldn't produce new episodes fast enough). It's been a wonderful nostalgic stroll down memory lane to revisit this series after so many years and I'm enjoying the chemistry between Shepherd and Willis that made the show so great. I know it wears out its welcome by the fourth season but everything is mostly new to me since my memory isn't what it was concerning the late 80s! |

It is just a great series.
Yeah it stumbles a bit near the end... and it's a shame Bruce felt like he had to neglect television for film... when the climate today is much different. This show would have been an even bigger hit and actors would kill to be in such a great series and they wouldn't have let it die like it did. There are a lot of bittersweet scenes.... one season finale comes to mind that breaks the forth wall I still think is one of my favorite scenes of the series. |

While watching the "Pilot" I was surprised to hear a lot of music that sounded like Tangerine Dream. I am familiar with some of their albums but not with their entire oeuvre so I'm not sure if it was actually them or a knockoff to sound like them. So imagine my surprise when the first episode of season two, "Brother, Can You Spare a Blonde?", began with the drug deal and chase using "Guido the Killer Pimp" from Risky Business (1983).
From what I'm familiar with Tangerine Dream's career a lot of their soundtrack work came from an amalgamation of songs on their albums mixed with original material for a film so I've always recognized that the beginning of "Guido the Killer Pimp" derives from "Cloudburst Flight" on Force Majeure (1979) but I think the rest of it is original to Risky Business. Just seems surprising that a TV show would use music from a soundtrack score that was so closely associated with a famous film from just a few years earlier. Great series IMO especially the first 3 seasons. Definitely one my favourite shows due to the rapid fire dialogue and chemistry between Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd. And the plots hold up really well too. Since the DVDS are out of print, I'm all for a BR release and would upgrade if the quality is there. Just not sure you'll get an improvement in the Cybil Shepherd scenes since most of her closeups were filmed in soft focus.

I am absolutely loving my revisit of this series for the first time since it aired and am nearly finished with season two. Usually when binge watching a series I skip the main titles and end credits but with Moonlighting I can't help but watch them both each and every time because of the nostalgia involved with the theme song. (And maybe because my memory of the original broadcasts is that an announcer would talk over the end credits so it was rarely enjoyed with the song intact.) Nothing is sweeter than that refrain at the end when Jarreau croons "Who just met on the way!"
In searching YouTube for the complete theme song I discovered there was a video made back in the day that I never knew existed. |
