Default Recommendations for 4K Player with Region Free Blu-Ray Capabilities

Looking for a unit that can play 4ks and UK blu-ray releases (think the Studio Canal John Carpenter releases). Recommendations welcome, thanks!

I would get a region free Sony Blu Ray player and a Panasonic 4K player.

Sadly, the Sony 4K players are not reliable in my experience. Good Luck.

You can buy an off shelf player, and if you are handy with a soldering iron, buy a kit from Rattlebyte and convert yourself....

They support lots of players

I've had mostly good luck with the Sony X700 hardware modded by 220 Electronics. (That Amazon link has the same player available from other sellers I can't personally vouch for.) It handles all DVD regions effortlessly, and requires one remote button press to change Blu-ray regions; it also has 3D playback capability if that's important for you.

The biggest issue I've had with the player in the many years of daily use is the occasional freeze during a layer change on a UHD, but it doesn't happen often enough to make me spring for a more expensive player.
