Default 'The Age of Adaline' - April 24, 2015

My wife and I absolutely LOVED 'The Age of Adaline'! Yes, it's predictable and manipulative. But it's also gloriously entertaining (for those that love to just lose themselves in the story). After it was over, I was ready to see it again! But I'm real sucker for stories like this.

The Booth Bijou gives 'The Age of Adaline' 5 out of 5 stars! Bring some tissue! If you don't need any tissue during this movie, then it's probably not your kind of movie. Either that, or you should check your pulse to see if your heart is still beating.

Honestly sounds like a real charmer from some of the things I've heard. I think I'm going to go Tuesday and do a double feature of this and The Longest Ride.

Caught this last night in a last minute decision and quite enjoyed it.

I had only seen the trailer once a while back and thought it would be much more what you would expect from this type of movie like following her through each decade step by step through to the present. I've seen some reviews that were disappointed that that is not what the film is, but personally I was quite happy that they didn't go that route like every other movie in this vein does. I much preferred the occasional flashback style of storytelling for this movie.

It does have a few of the expected cliches of course, this movie type will always have that; particularly the third act falls into this hard and the late portion of the third act was my least favorite of the film because of this reason and lowered my enjoyment a little bit. Overall though, I quite enjoyed her story throughout the movie, but could also understand how others could find it boring.

Blake Lively was great in the movie, very good performance from her. And of course, she is unnaturally gorgeous. My most pleasant surprise for this film was Harrison Ford. I can't believe I saw a movie where he is actually ACTING again. It has been so long since he has done anything but phone it in and play himself. Gives me hope that he actually put some effort in for The Force Awakens later this year

I also liked the interesting choice of camera shots throughout the film. I don't know what it was about the overhead shots of the city, but they looked like they had a real depth to them even though it wasn't 3D.

Even if this isn't your typical movie type, I say check it out if it piques your interest even a little bit as I am clearly not the target audience for this film and I really enjoyed it and would gladly watch it again.

Statements like this always make me laugh. I'm betting anyone who makes them never saw Morning Glory or 42.

To the ones who watched it: Lana Del Rey's ''Life Is Beautiful'' play during the film?
We can hear a preview in the new trailer, but as a fan of her, I want to know.
Also, in Brazil the film it's going to premiere only on the next month. I want to watch it, it looks good.

I hear that this is supposed to be pretty good and that the person that they got to play a young Harrison Ford is a dead ringer for him, except for the chin scar that is.

They were going to have the scar and then cut it. There were make-up tests.

This is the actor playing young Harrison Ford in the movie:

As a massive Blake Lively fan -- and no, not just because she's insanely gorgeous, though that helps -- I definitely want to see this. As with most stuff, the likelihood of my seeing it in the theater is low, but it looks good.

And even though someone looking through my collection might not immediately come to this conclusion, I'm always up for a good tear-inducing flick.

Good to hear. I agree he has seemed to phone in his last few performances, which have made me worried for Episode VII.

Back on topic tho, I've been interested in this movie since I saw the trailer. Not enough to maybe pay full price for it, but I'm glad to hear it's not a bomb!

IMDB lists the song in the film.

EDIT: I also find this bit of trivia hilarious for no reason.

It is not in the film. The only song featured in the film is in the credits and its the superb "Start again" by Rob Simonsen & Faux Fix f/Elena Tonra.

Solid film that was missing just a little something - I don't know exactly what, I can't put my finger on it - to make it a top tier melodrama.

I also felt that it was
[Show spoiler]unnecessary for her to lose her agelessness for the story to end satisfactorily
. I could have also done without the annoying voice-over that reminded me of Men, Women & Children. Still, I enjoyed it enough.

That to me was actually the best part.
[Show spoiler]I thought it was simply poetic; an accident that essentially ended her from ever being truly happy because of her permanent ageless state, was the exact reason why she could live happily now that it had gone. Adaline shed that tear when she found the white hair because she knew she was free from the curse and she could grow old with Ellis and have a love like William/Kathy did.

I do think her telling her secret to Ellis was the first step but I think when she made that decision, fate decided to give her a great love that would stand the test of time rather than be momentary and a secret to only a few

I thought she had far stronger chemistry with Ford than the son. I was almost rooting for them to run off together.

The narration was so annoying and unnecessary. It would be a miracle if the narration was optional on the Blu-Ray.
