Default Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025)

Quote:
The Weeknd‘s suspense thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” in which he stars alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, will debut in theaters on May 16.

Directed by Trey Edward Shults (“Waves”) and distributed by Lionsgate, the film is inspired by and featuring new music from the Weeknd. It’s described as a “first of its kind theatrical experience.”

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” marks the final piece in the Weeknd’s artistic trilogy featuring 2020’s “After Hours” and 2022’s “Dawn FM.” The film also lines up with the Weeknd’s next album and concert tour of the same name. “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” the album, will debut on Jan. 24, and the Weekend will perform a one-night-only concert at the Rose Bowl the next day.

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is produced by the Weeknd’s Manic Phase banner and Reza Fahim, along with the late Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss. It is executive produced by Ortega, Shults, Michael Rapino, Ryan Kroft, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby and Harrison Huffman.

I like all these people involved and also believe The Idol to be one of the most bizarrely misunderstood shows of the past several years so I'm looking forward to this

The Weeknd spoke to Variety about how the new film is related to his music:

Quote:
The film, due May 16 via Lionsgate, is a suspense thriller co-written by and starring the Weeknd alongside Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday,” “Jane the Virgin”) and Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn,” “The Banshees of Inisherin”). Loosely connected to the album, the film was directed by Trey Edward Shults, known for the 2019 drama “Waves” and the 2017 horror film “It Comes at Night.” Shults wrote the film with the Weeknd and “Idol” co-writer Reza Fahim.

While the Weeknd, who turns 35 in February, shies away from revealing details about the film, broadly speaking, it continues the “After Hours” theme of a character struggling with his sense of self and delves deeply into the psychology of fame. Both the film’s original script and the new album were overhauled to incorporate the aftereffects of the Weeknd’s experience at SoFi.

Shults tells Variety, “From our first meeting, that’s what emboldened me: He really wanted me to make this my film and bring myself to it. And I was blown away by how well he responds to direction as an actor: There would be days where I was ready to walk away from a scene, thinking we got it, and he would ask for another take and push the scene to a new level. I don’t think people realize yet what a good actor he is.”

The Weeknd gushes when talking about his co-stars, Ortega and Keoghan. “Jenna brought so much depth to the character,” he says. “There was a scene where Trey and I looked at each other like, ‘On paper, this is just ridiculous — how is it going to translate on screen?’ And she said, ‘I have an idea.’ She led that whole scene — none of it was rehearsed, and a lot of my reactions in it are not acting.”

Ortega says, “Abel is such a sweetheart, and really looked out for everyone on our set. It was so great getting to know him and help bring his vision to life.”

Keoghan “was a friend of mine prior to all this,” the Weeknd continues, “and he was always number one on my list for his role. What makes him different from Jenna is that his talent is so raw, it just comes so naturally to him.”

Keoghan tells Variety, “It’s so nice to collaborate with such a close friend, but also an artist who has expressed so much of himself through one medium and is now channeling it through another.”

The Weeknd has just dropped the album of the same name that reportedly serves as inspiration for the movie...

Quote:
The album will be followed in May by the film of the same name, starring the Weeknd with Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The film was co-written and directed by Trey Edward Schults for Lionsgate and will release May 16, 2025, exclusively in theaters.

I’m intrigued but I am a tad worried it looks somewhere between a perfume commercial and a Gasper Noe rip-off. The fact it’s being advertised as a “surreal odyssey” from the offset has me thinking Lionsgate have no idea what to do with it, and it potentially has nothing between the ears.

Select CDs include signed insert card, covers designed by Frank Miller, Harmony Korine and licensed Basquiat art work.

Same art for vinyl and some have colored vinyl.

Physical release only has 11 songs, digital 22 but physical is priced very low comparatively. CDs for $8-10, Vinyl $17-20

Personally I love the shortened physical track list and not overcharging for all of the exclusives. There’s more exclusives than what I listed above. What a breath of fresh air in terms of pricing

At The Weeknd XO Store the digital for all the songs is $7.99.

Looks like he’ll eventually do what Taylor Swift did for Tortured Poets

I had no idea the physical ones were only 11 tracks, and in a different order than how they are on the 22-track version. Very odd. And 2 of those 11 aren't even on the digital version

I have to confess, I know next to nothing about The Weeknd, I'm mostly interested in this because of Jenna and Barry.

Having said that, this article seems to throw a few clues about the movie

Loved Waves and wish it was treated better upon release. This trailer goes pretty hard, giving off some strong Safdie Brothers vibes.

Somehow just finding out this. But I've been enjoying the album of the same name, I loved The Idol, I'm a big fan of Jenna Ortega and the trailer was intriguing, so I'm definitely in.

Hurry Up Tomorrow - Rated R for language throughout, drug use, some bloody violence and brief nudity.
