This is for the North American release which has been added to the site. My Super 8 Walmart Exlusive Thread is missing with a link to nowhere, due to my inablility to post threads during the correct times. This isn't the first time that this has happened. If they want to move the thread, that is alright with me.
Super 8 Walmart Exclusive thread link is posted here. |

I wasn't impressed by this film. Within the first ten minutes the dog had demonstrated 3 times that he was sharper and smart than Tintin the reporter. I'm not joking. He spotted a pickpocket, a secret vial with a hidden message, and the way into a deserted mansion. Tintin ignored all his barking for the most part.
Then a lot of the series of events were very over the top and comical. Now I'd read some of the books, and the movie is well directed by Spielberg. A particular scene where a story of an attack by pirates fades in and out to similar looking situations in the main film's timeline was beautiful. Still, I think this is much better as a kid and family movie. I'd rather watch Pixar, and I think Snowy the dog is more worthy of a film than Tintin |

Pre-ordered this last night with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. March is a pretty heavy month:
Tintin Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Letter Never Sent - Criterion The Muppets Three Musketeers (on hold as this one is most likely to have a price drop sooner) Possibly Sherlock Holmes 2 (although that's looking more like April now) |

I didn't like the steelbook version, imo it looks horrible.
I picked up the 3D + 2D combopack this weekend. "Region B" according the cover. Snowy always has a keyrole in the stories. I think it's great Spielberg didn't make a Hollywood-adaptation, but respected the original material. Sometimes it's over the top, but it's a cartoon. Spiderman and Superman stories are also over the top. Tintin has no girlfriend, family or parents in the story ... He's a reporter, but doesn't work for a paper (maybe he's freelance?) ... That's just part of the mystery. I don't get why that's such a problem for the US audience? How many "singles" are living alone in an appartment? This is more "reality", than the average US romantic comedy. Another plus: the critical approach on the abuse of "power" by the leaders (scenes in Morocco > water). Nothing has changed in the (especially) Third World. People in the streets are begging for some water, while the rich in their "palace" own all the water. Picture quality is incredible. IMO this beats most of the Pixar movies + boring Ice Age & Kung Fu Panda-sequels. Not because Tintin is a "Belgian symbol". I was really disappointed in The Smurfs (also Belgian) because it was just too Hollywood. You always have to respect the original material. Last edited by PanaPlasma; 02-26-2012 at 08:17 PM. |
