![]() ![]() The Way Back Blu-ray Has anybody seen this yet? I might see it on Blu-ray first if I can't find a theatre that plays it. Last edited by Scottie; 09-03-2017 at 06:28 AM. |

Weir is possibly my favorite director. I'm sure this won't be showing at any theater near me, either. Some of the word from those who have seen it has been glowing. I'm a big fan of epic journey type stuff, and this should have some gorgeous scenery to be enjoyed in blu.
Hopefully some day we get blu versions of Gallipoli, Witness, The Mosquito Coast, etc. as well. |

Great film. Can't wait to buy it. It should be a gorgeous BD. This is classic, big-canvas, David Lean-esque filmmaking at its finest.
It's a real pity Newmarket, this film's small U.S. distributor, weren't able to muster more promotion. If The Way Back is playing at a theatre near you now, I highly recommend a trip to the theatre. ![]() |

Wow! This got a very limited release in theaters, didn't it?
![]() It hasn't even arrived in Europe yet. To the posters above: I am also eagerly awaiting "The Mosquito Coast" on BD, and David Lean's epics definitely come to mind when seeing the trailer of "The Way Back". I normally adore Peter Weir films, but Master and Commander didn't do much for me. It's just not emotional enough for me. It The Way Back more emotional? |

I love Peter Weir too. It appears this film became a box office bomb for some reason. It was playing at one theater for a total of two weeks near me. The second week they were down to one showing a day. The third week I finally went to see it but it was gone. A pity. But it will live again on blu-ray for me. Great to hear it's a good movie. Since also I love David Lean hearing that it's "Lean-esque" is good news!
Here are the numbers according to box office mojo: The Way Back Domestic Total as of Feb. 6, 2011: $2,532,684 Distributor: Newmarket Release Date: January 21, 2011 Genre: Drama Runtime: 1 hrs. 59 min. MPAA Rating: PG-13 Production Budget: $30 million |

Yes it did play in theaters (I know, I went and saw it) - but I can understand you thinking it hadn't, given the overall small number of theaters it played in and the lack of publicity (hell, the only reason I found out about it was the review in my local paper).

I was able to track down the Swiss Special Edition which has all the extras of the UK Edition + more. It is called the Ascot Elite edition and even though it says Region B it's REGION FREE (tested on my Region A player).

There are also title cards at the end explaining what happened to the characters, as I remember.
Lack of English subtitles for the non-English scenes and non-English onscreen text would be a dealbreaker for me, unfortunately. The US BD is super cheap used. The German disc might be worthwhile for the extras, but it seems to me one would also want the US disc for watching the film itself. |

To be clear, these are informational cards explaining what happened to various historical characters, or cards explaining elements of the plot, as with Code 46. |
