Default Newbie question regarding adding to database.

Just wondering what i have to specifically do in order to add to the database?

When I try to, I’m met with an error that I’m not logged in, even though I am.

I’ve made over ten posts, and I realise there’s posts on here all about adding to the database, but there’s nothing clear or concrete about what to specifically do in order to do it.

It's amazing none of this is properly laid out in full for users.

Any idea if the ability to add movies automatically is enabled after 10 posts? I'm up to 12 but still not able to search the master and add a new movie to the database.

Some users are saying that you need to have 10 posts and then counts a 30 days grace period, so after 30 days from publishing your 10th post you should be able to add titles.

That's what surprised me too. People here probably get annoyed by questions of why one can't post but how am I as a new member supposed to know that?

This thread has helped me understand a little better, I've been hoping to make an amendment to some box art on a Buffy release but even when I got it unlocked by a mod, I couldn't do anything and I get that 'not logged in' error despite being logged in. Presumably I need to have 10+ posts and then wait another 30 days to be able to contribute.

Which is totally fine and understandable but yeah I couldn't find that information anywhere so I was getting a bit frustrated. This website is amazing and I can't wait to be able to contribute!

Thanks everyone for the info, it's near impossible to play a game without knowing the rules, so this has been extremely helpful =)

Pretty sure I was able to add movies well before 10 posts, though I did originally open my account in 2019 and never use it. I'm wondering if the amount already in your collection affects it as well.

It seems counterproductive to limit new users in this way. I understand that these hurdles exist to prevent spam, but there are better ways to accomplish that. Requiring anyone who wishes to contribute to create an account, make 10 posts, and wait 30 days does a disservice to the completeness of the database by shutting out casual contributors. 99% of folks with just one or two uncatalogged Blu-Rays aren't going to bother. It also creates more spam on the forums from folks who post just so that they can contribute to the database.

If you want people to contribute, the bar to doing so has to be as low as possible. Google Maps gets this right: anyone can submit information; new users just get more scrutiny. To prevent spam, just be limit new users to a single submission per day or something.

I totally agree, I have two BDs not in the database - and now it seems I need to find 10 things to post about… and wait 30 days… I was hoping to be done with my collection in a week or so…. I have just found another version to get it in my collection.

I have been a collector of movies for the last 3 decades, and never got around cataloging all the movie I have bought over the years, anyway I finally decided it was about time to get it done. I made a list for myself like 15+ years ago in Excel. Thou that list got lost. So after trying to figure out which app or place it would be best to make a list, where it also would be possible to add relases not found. Anyway I thought this would be easier than having to make like 10-12 comments and wait another 30 days, if this true, maybe I should use another app instead. Just thinking out loud. I got like registering about 30 + blu rays in, and have already 2-3 movies that I had to use another country or edtion to fill it in. Since they had other barcode registered. Neither did one of them have a cover, which would be something I could have added, if I had access. Having somewhere between 2500-3000 movies. Starting with issues of not finding or not being able to add edtions and new country, with uploading of cover when needed, certainly made me wonder if there are other app/place where it would be easier to get myself a better view over and a more completed list of what I have. So now I am open for suggestions. There should be an easier way than having to complete like 10-12 posts and a waiting period. It sounds all to unnessary, when it still could take a day or 2 before it would be added after having been controlled by some admin also before it gets added.

56 movies into the registration of my movies, I already had to use 8 other countries or no cover of the movies I could have added if I had the possibilities to add photo of the cover, front and back, and whatever needed information that could be of interest. For now I have found relases of the same movie in other countries European, still there is a couple that deviates when it comes to length of said movie, or have other cover. Anyway for now I'll continue to add, and hopefully I'll get around to be allowed to add information, or pictures of covers at a later time.

There are a few in my collection that are multi-titles that I can't even find an alternate for, so using another country does no good.

Yep. First day of trying to add my collection and having to try to find out how to add. I've been looking for a while for an app/website to add my stuff to where I didn't have to add new content constantly. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the place.
