Default 1080p/60hz-24fps vs 1080p/120hz-24fps

I just left my local BB and they finally had a decent movie playing with a decent setup for the BD display.

They had the newest 40" Samsung, 25000:1 Contrast, 120hz, 1080p playing POTC 3 at 24fps.

Now, I have a little older Samsung with 60hz refresh rate. When I play POTC 3 at 60fps vs 24fps, I notice a difference, but this... This was absolutely amazing. It was so clear and so lifelike that it was as if I was at the actual movie set watching through a window. The movements were real, the grain, was real. It was eye popping to say the least.

Don't let anyone tell you different. There is a huge difference between watching a BD at 24fps on a TV that can accept it without and 3:2 pull down adjustments, and one that cannot.

Check it out, you will be pleasantly surprised, as was I.

1080p 24 on a 60 mhz tv is almost useless because 24 does not divide into 60 evenly so there are still frames added.
1080p/24 on a 120mhz tv is pretty much as good as you can get

I know it does not divide evenly, thus the 3:2 pulldown, but it still looks better than 1080p/60. My point, if you think your TV looks awesome at 1080p/60, check it out on a 1080p/120 @ 24fps. You will cry then tell the Mrs., "I need a new TV!"

LNT4671F sitting right in front of me. It makes the movie look almost 3D. It truly has to be seen to be believed!

Yeah I saw that same Samsung display and cried because I just bought a 40inch a month ago. But thats okay because if I buy the Samsung 120hz now I will cry later again when the Samsung LED tv's with 300,000:1 contrast ratio come out.

But back to your post. 120hz is amazing!

That is what I thought, and the motion, so smooth, so lifelike

3:2 pulldown bothers me quite a bit. i have a very good eye for motion quality, so i am not impressed with watching blu's on a 60hz screen with the pulldown added to a 24p signal. i mean, i love the image quality, but have been bothered by the motion jitter from day one with blu-rays.

im currently saving for an upgrade to a 120hz tv and an't wait.

I don't personally recall looking out a window and seeing film grain. Maybe someone can help me with this.

The fact that, sometimes, the window is a little dirty. There is a fineness to it that just looks more real than anything else I have seen.

Sometimes, things cannot be explained. They just are. We either get it or we don't and we are no worse for wear either way.
