It's Christmas in July!...Universal, and Warner Bros. will be releasing the Complete Rankin/Bass Christmas Collection on Blu-ray, on October 31s. The set includes 18 Classics, 11 of which have never been in HD on Blu-ray before (a couple have been extras in SD previously). The set will also include a 24-page booklet.This will probably upset some people, as they just released this exact set on DVD last October.

Rudolph’s Shiny New Year and Nestor have been on Blu-ray before. They are included as bonus episodes on the Year Without a Santa Clause BD released in 2010 but in SD.

These releases are super confusing as there has been so many of them of years with different specials included or excluded.

Ah, okay. I was basing it on the official description for the set:

Universal and Warner Bros. multi-studio collection Never-before released complete collection on Blu-ray; 11 out of the 18 titles have never been on Blu-ray! Collection includes 24-page booklet

I suppose because it's on SD, they don't look at it as being on Blu-ray before, though I guess technically they were. I'll update my post to say first time in HD on Blu-ray.

Super excited to get these. I imagine it was their plan all along (unless sales were good and then changed their minds). Always good to see new stuff to blu-ray (especially Christmas stuff).

Wow, nice! I didn't watch all of these specials in my childhood, but I did watch several of them, so I may pick this up. I have the five-special BD set already, but we'll see what the price of this one is!

I've been wondering what Warner was going to do with them since most of them have been restored in HD and made available digitally.

Nestor and Jack Frost have always looked pretty good on DVD so I’m hoping they’ll look great on blu-ray. I hope Warners up The Year Without a Santa Claus to 4K. It was one of the earliest to make blu-ray. Oh yeah, how about The Grinch and The Easter Bunny is Comin’ to Town on blu-ray too.

I bought the dvd to upgrade the mod releases last year, but only did a spot check. The two most important things to me, The Little Dummer Boy’s audio still was not fixed, and there isn’t a play all option, which was disappointing.

There's moments in the audio where the sound effects don't play at all, but the score does. Which makes it hilarious when Aaron plays his drum for the first time in the flashback and no drum sound comes out.

There's also a line towards the end where Greer Garson's voice is replaced by Paul Frees.

I'm sure there's other examples, but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Kinda wish they could have just included all the specials - but this is awesome nonetheless.

So for the stop motion specials, that just leaves:

- The Ballad of Smokey the Bear (is this available anywhere?)
- The Emperor's New Clothes (DVD only)
- Here Comes Peter Cottontail (on blu but cut by 9 minutes)
- The Easter Bunny is Comin’ to Town (DVD only but available in HD to stream or buy digitally)

Is that correct?

Correct. There's some rights issues with the first one (ownership of Smokey), so don't expect that to be released unless someone resolved the rights.
