Canada House of the Dead

Well I received my copy of this today and I noticed on the blu-ray listing here, the aspect ratio is incorrect. The Blu-Ray is in fact 1:78:1, which I assume has been cropped by Alliance?

Such a shame, as the picture is not that bad and it does have DTS-HD MA and sounds very good.

Yes, I am admitting as to enjoying this film, and was very excited to see it come out on Blu-Ray. I could be wrong on the original aspect ratio of the film, but I could have sworn it was not 1:78:1 on the DVD i own.

Bring on House of the Dead 2 Blu-Ray

Yeah, it was 2.39:1 theatrically... I will update the listing on bluray.com. Thanks for the specs! Also, are there any extras on the disc?

No special features. Plus it included a 5.1 DTS-HD MA track, 5.1 track, and a 2.0 French track.

I assume this is the "Horror Cut" and not the "Funny Cut" that was released a few years later

Default House of the Dead

The film was entertaining but no masterpeice by any stretch of the imagination. The blu-ray release got Allianced which means wrong aspect ratio and no extras. I own both the blu-ray and dvd as the dvd is in the original aspect ratio and has all the extras. So it would be nice to see a proper blu-ray release, but I doubt it will ever happen.

The good news is this:

Sometimes Dollarama gets in dvds of this film for $2, so you can get your extra features this way.

There is the House of the Dead Funny Cut on dvd. Unfortunately it is $24 at HMV.

Here are some Blu-ray terms for your ammusement:

I'm curious, I know the BD is in the wrong aspect ratio, but is it cropped or open matte? Anybody know?

The Blu-ray is open matte to fill a widescreen 16x9 TV. There's more information on top and bottom that's cropped out of the picture on the 2:39:1 DVD. Just note that the U.S. DVD gives you 6.1 and 5.1 audio options, but the Blu-ray only offers 5.1.
