Default LOVE ON DELIVERY (1994, Stephen Chow)- Vinegar Syndrome Release

I'm surprised no one posted a thread on this (there is one from 2017 for a Hong Kong release).

LOVE ON DELIVERY is now out as a Region 1 Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome (released on August 31, 2024).

It stars Stephen Chow (Chow Sing-Chi), arguably Hong Kong's greatest cinematic comedian. His two most popular films are probably KUNG FU HUSTLE and SHAOLIN SOCCER, but he's acted in 62 films, and written and directed a dozen. Recently he's been getting some love via HD releases including 88 Film's FORBIDDEN CITY COP, the FIGHT BACK TO SCHOOL trilogy, and CJ7, Eureka's ROYAL TRAMP 1 &2, and FROM BEIJING WITH LOVE, and Shout Factory's upcoming The Stephen Chow Collection (which includes LOOK OUT, OFFICER, JUSTICE MY FOOT!, THE MAD MONK, and OUT OF THE DARK). Now Vinegar Syndrome joins in the fun with LOVE ON DELIVERY. This movie is hilarious and features some outrageous action scenes too. Chow loves martial arts and often incorporates it into his films. Now I'm a guy who isn't that fond of silly shenanigans in kung fu movies, especially in old-school stuff. Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, and Jackie Chan are (mostly) exceptions to that. I do enjoy some Hong Kong comedy, though I much prefer action or horror (or even drama). Long ago I was pestered relentlessly to give Stephen Chow a chance, and I'm glad I finally gave in.

Anyway, this one is great, and I wanted to help spread the word about it!

If someone more technically proficient would be kind enough to add a photo of the release, that would be appreciated.

Here's some info from VS's site:

LOVE ON DELIVERY is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video stores, with locations in Bridgeport, CT; Aurora, CO and Toronto, ON!

Unique to this line, each hand numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.

These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This slipcase edition (designed by Adam Juresko) is strictly limited to 4,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.
---

Ho Kam Ngan, a lowly food delivery boy, falls madly in love with a beautiful woman named Lily. The only problem is, a brutish Judo instructor named Black Bear (who also has eyes for Lily) embarrasses Ngan in front of her by making him look like a coward. Vowing to win over Lily's affection, Ngan begins learning martial arts from a supposed kung-fu master who is secretly just scamming Ngan out of his money. To make matters worse, Lily's old boyfriend returns and challenges Ngan to a martial arts tournament to prove who is the better man. Believing he is actually learning real kung-fu, Ngan accepts the fight and now must defend his honor to prove he is worthy of Lily's love.

Starring beloved Hong Kong comedy actor Stephen Chow (Kung-Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) and directed by frequent collaborator Lik-Chi Lee, LOVE ON DELIVERY is an over-the-top martial arts comedy that pays tribute to the classic underdog story. Offering up off-the-wall fight scenes and numerous pop culture references, LOVE ON DELIVERY is an excellent example of the future talent we would see in Chow's later films. Vinegar Syndrome Archive is proud to present this zany fisticuffs Hong Kong comedy on Blu-ray for the first time in the U.S., scanned in 2K and newly restored from the original camera negative.

directed by: Lik-Chi Lee
starring: Stephen Chow, Christy Chung, Man-Tat Ng, Joe Cheng
1994 / 100 min / 1.85:1 / Cantonese Mono

Thanks for starting a thread for this. I was blown away by this one, it might even be my new favorite Stephen Chow movie. Definitely recommend fans of Hong Kong comedies or Stephen Chow pick this up.

On a side note, also noticed there’s no thread for 88 Films release of Chow’s Fight Back to School trilogy, also some great films I hadn’t seen till recently (at least the first two were great, the third is basically a goofy Basic Instinct parody lol).

I knew nothing about this film, but I bought it during the VS sale because of the Garfield. I was rewarded with a comedic masterpiece.

And now it's sold out. I'm thankful I bought one the day it sold out

yes, I am hoping, too... This is too important film in Chow's filmography to just get a LE set from VS.

I’m hoping some stock pops up from the smaller shops.
