Default Microsoft dumping stock of Xbox 360 HD DVD drive in UK - end is near?

We have received a tip from a trusted source (who wishes not to be named) in the UK games industry that Microsoft distributors have been told by MS to try and dump stock of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD attachment into the trade channels at the low price of £49.95 plus VAT. This provides a huge indication that MS is planning to drop the drive all together due to a lack of sales in the UK region and who knows where else.

If this doesn't work, then M$ might as well throw the drives into the desert, like Atari did with the E.T. cartrages.

I heard somewhere that Microsoft is going to focus more on its downloadable movies!

This is cool! unlike HD-DVD

I'm not particularly sure cos remember the time when M$ said that they would make a BD drive if the consumer wanted them to? I'd say all the Xbots and Sony haters (which are practically the same thing) will just have a flood of emails sayin' "F**k BD, we want downloads, f**k sony and their sissy ass hi def format". Only the smart 360 owners will want a BD drive for their system as downloads will not take off for years, which I'll be happy with. I just want a format that I can hold and pawn back when I'm finished watching it, not somethin' thats just a bunch of 0's and 1's which can be deleted without any return.

Say what you want about Microsoft or any other company "smart" enough to see that consumers spoke and they are changing to cash in on what consumers said they wanted. I won't bother finding the quote, but MS never said they would not produce a Blu-ray drive/player. They got behind Toshiba till they saw the writing on the wall. I have a Sony 300BDP and a 360. I never bought a HD player for it. But I do like playing COD4 and Halo.

What kills me is, if it is all about the money and catering to the consumer, why didn't MS make Halo for the PS3 and how come I can't play Metal Gear solid on my 360?

Just my 2 cents.
