Late March is when they supposed to ship unless they are delays. I would like a JVC LCOS projector for my main home theater room. And a 97-inch LG OLED for my bedroom. One of these days I might get this project done.

The brightness leap from G2 to G3 was appreciable and i am really curious to see the independent reviews from Vincent and others to show whether there's not as much of a jump but a genuinely appreciable difference alongside the other marketed improvements at CES for colour volume and better gradations.

AI is talked up a lot, but i don't know if i've yet to see it make a significant difference in reviews where its kept on for picture settings. It doesn't look like the QD OLEDs will be a slouch either, so will be great to see how they compare toe to toe but does seem they'll be aiming for being price competitive on both sides.

The fact the larger size gets MLA now too makes it an option to go for. Bit rich for me mind you, but i think being Canada is next door, it might not be too far off the USA launch period to arrive there.

I personally managed to stretch to a 65" for my room which tbh is already oversized. I was imagining the extra pain to fit a 77" when i got screen greed when i upgrade again, but an 83" definitely wouldn't fit lmao. You lucky person if you can. Going to be a mind blowing image for sure for movies etc.

I'm curious to see the reviews of the models and if there's any compromise or exactly the same brilliant picture all the way up tp the glorious 83" G4.

Ah, well honestly it's even tough to dream of home ownership in any moderately developed country. Might as well compare it to NASA trying to go to the moon for the first time where it comes to me tbh.

That said, with my disposable income i at least try to put it towards things i know i will use regularly and get joy out of and a 65" OLED has been amazing. Can't wait to see how the upgrades feel in around 2028 when i plan to replace my current TV.

Just got an update from LG that our first allocation/shipment of G4 and C4 OLED TVs are now scheduled for the week of March 18th. The 97" G4 will be a a month or so later.

Way way overpriced for this current economic climate. I suggest waiting until black Friday 2024 to purchase, they should be much cheaper after they realize those TV'S won't sell at those prices.

It costs billions of dollars sometimes for flat panel companies to do research and development. Many times, the mark up on electronics is only 10% to 15%. The 83-inch size is the better value at $78 per inch versus the 97-inch size being around $258 per inch. But someone that is in their late 80’s or 90’s that plans on watching TV a lot for the next 10 years might want to go with the 97 inch if they thought it might be their last new TV they own. Most people would go with the 83 inch to save some money while at the same time having a good size native 4K OLED screen. One is also getting 5 to 10 years’ worth of free quality firmware updates from LG.

While the OLED panel has a 5-year warranty the other electronics in the panel only has a one-year warranty for parts and labor (LG should have had a 2- or 3-year warranty instead of 1 year warranty, but then maybe the TV would cost an extra $500 because of the extended warranty). Anyone with a several thousand-dollar home theater system needs to buy a 1500+ watt pure sine wave UPS for around $1,000+ that will protect your investment from not only surges but also brownouts that shorten the life of the display, A/V receiver, etc. Under ideal conditions these LG displays might last 10-20+ years if a good quality UPS is connected. When the power goes out the 1500+ watt UPS power backup will engage instantly to power the display, A/V receiver and everything else in the home theater room until the whole house backup generator kicks in around 30 seconds later. If one does not have a backup whole house generate then after 5 or 10 minutes one should consider shutting off the home theater equipment during a power outage to conservate battery power in the UPS that can last 30 minutes or longer on a charge (deepening on the load), since the lifespan of the batteries in the UPS will be shorter if they are constantly being drained all the way down and charged back up. Battery packs in UPS systems last between 3-5 years and sometimes 5-7 years if batteries are not used that often. Battery packs with 4 batteries can run $100 to $200+ when they need replaced. There are also entry level UPS systems starting at around $55 that have a simulated sine wave but only do 260 watts which will instantly not work during a power outage if more then 260 watts is used. Plus those smaller units might only provide one minute of power backups. Home Theater setups with A/V receivers, and many other electronics need a good quality 1500+ watt pure sine wave UPS for brownout protection from companies like Cypberpower and others. Many of the larger UPS units make fan noise during power outages to keep the batteries cool. UPS systems when getting a lot of surges can go bad in 7 to 20 years. With the average UPS system getting massive surges every year lasting around 10 years before needing to be replaced. Some people end up having their computers and home theater systems lasting 20+ years with no repairs but the UPS power backup needing to be replaced after 7 to 10 years because of the UPS shutting down and no longer working after massive surge damage over the many years. I have seen some UPS systems still work after 20 years but I also have seen many go bad in the 7–10 year time frame. But if one is protecting a new $25,000 97 inch TV or a $10,000+ home theater setup, replacing a UPS system every 10 years make a lot of sense.

All I'm saying is that I don't believe LG is reading the market and the economy overall right now. I just don't think people struggling to make ends meet (inflation) are just going to run out and spend nearly $7,000 on a giant OLED TV. The upcoming LG G4 looks like a niche product that will find its customers from people purchasing from stores like Robert Zohn and that's not a huge market. If you put them in Best Buy they won't sell.

I hope Best Buy carries them in their Magnolia centers especially the 97-inch model on display one day (If the demand to stock it in the back of the store is not there, then at least some people can look at the display in the store and special order it from Best Buy if they want one).

LG makes a wide selection of OLED displays including entry level models under $1,000 that are located on the Walmart website but I have not seen any OLED displays in the actual Walmart stores yet (some LG 42-inch OLED's for $798 at Walmart online). As a wide selection of low price, medium price, and high price OLED’s come available in all sizes, Walmart in theory one day most likely will carry OLED screens in all their stores. With places like Best Buy and Value Electronics offering the higher end models.

That's probably where they will make sales, in the $1500 and under prices TV's. The G4 won't sell based strictly on Nits. TVs are bright enough. We're getting too crazy with this race for the brightest OLED TVs.

Definitely interested to see the upgrades LG can muster for the G4 even over the G3 but i actually think Samsung deserve credit over LG themselves for pushing out the tech they have on the G3 and hopefully G4 onwards due to them having to compete against the QD OLEDs. If they weren't here and as bright as they were, i think LG would have been happy to drag their feet along on raising their game and maybe selling incremental brightness advances for the years past.

Hopefully Samsung and LG keep pushing each other further and higher to better picture quality heights at great price points. Particularly for 2028 or so when i decide to finally upgrade my 2010 model lol
