Paramount Untitled Damien Chazelle Movie (2025)

Quote:
Paramount Pictures will back Damien Chazelle‘s next feature film.

The collaboration reunites the director with the studio behind his most recent movie, 2022’s “Babylon,” a debauched and drug-fueled ode to the golden age of showbiz. Despite its grand ambitions and starry cast of Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, “Babylon” became an epic box office disaster with just $63 million worldwide against its $80 million budget (not including the pricey marketing campaign).

Paramount announced Chazelle’s new movie as part of its presentation at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of movie theater owners that’s currently taking place in Las Vegas. The studio didn’t share a single detail — not the genre, cast, plot or release timeline — about Chazelle’s new film. Of course, Paramount didn’t reveal the budget either, although Chazelle presumably won’t get the same blank check to fund the upcoming movie. source

Glad he's still working though. I thought Babylon was brilliant.

Didn’t seem to have that much problem getting his next film up and running.

I loved Babylon, but I’m interested in seeing what he does next, particularly with that sense of hubris that seems to have followed him after having his ego wounded.

I'll be there. Babylon was a film that could only be properly appreciated in the theater. Saw it three times.

I HATED Babylon, but loved Chazelle's previous three movies, so I'm still happy he's got another gig lined up.

Loved Babylon in theatres, and now the steelbook is so nice.
Look forward to whatever he does next.

pre-emptive zero stars? La La Land is LIMP and Babylon is a dumpster fire.

I do hope this is his other risky dream project á la Babylon he talked about recently. He mentioned it was difficult to get it financed after Babylon, so hopefully Paramount caved in.

Did not care for Babylon at all, but will still give him another shot because First Man, La La Land and Whiplash are all excellent.

I have never seen a movie before that within the first 10 minutes I knew I hated it.

This Chazelle project had originally been planned to go into production in 2024 but was scrapped; now there is reportedly a chance it might be back on while Chazelle is still trying to get the Evel Knievel movie going.

Quote:
There’s still some uncertainty surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio and Damien Chazelle’s “Evel Knievel Goes on Tour.” The project appears to be on hold, reportedly awaiting DiCaprio to finalize his involvement.

In the meantime, Chazelle is developing another film — currently untitled — which is set within a prison environment. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Daniel Craig has been offered the leading role.

Over the past three years, Craig has starred in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” (2022), returned to Broadway in “Macbeth,” and took on a dramatic role in Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” (2024). He’s also set to reprise his role as Benoit Blanc in “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” releasing in 2025.

The “prison film” was originally set up at Paramount in April 2024 and described as a mid-budget drama with action elements. A fall 2024 production start was initially planned but was later scrapped.

Back in the fall, Chazelle told Vanity Fair he was juggling two projects and hadn’t yet chosen which one to prioritize. His last film, “Babylon,” struggled commercially, earning $63M globally on a budget just shy of $100M. The losses reportedly cost Paramount around $87M. Interestingly, despite its box office failure, Babylon received a much warmer reception in France from both critics and audiences.

Earlier this year, Chazelle revealed that he was nearly finished writing a new script and preparing to pitch it. However, he admitted to feeling uncertain about how the industry would respond to his return following Babylon’s poor domestic performance.

Whiplash was brilliant. Babylon was interesting, but having watched it twice I'm still undecided whether it was good or not.

Still, looking forward to seeing what he does next.

More importantly:

Confirmed: Damien Chazelle’s Next Film is Prison-Set Thriller — His ‘Evel Knievel’ Project With DiCaprio Canned

Thank god. The Knievel project sounded okay but a prison drama with the possible actors sounds superb.
