Blu-ray Samurai

![]() ![]() ![]() The first film that got me into Ti West I think. Still one of his best. Not too keen on the artwork (as usual with Second Sight) and that price point is high for a Blu-ray too. Looks like HMV (£37.99) had added 20% to their price to make up for the 20% off we all use. There's a vanilla version too. Extras: Audio commentary with Writer-Director Ti West & Actor Jocelin Donahue Audio commentary with Ti West, Producers Larry Fessenden & Peter Phok and Sound Designer Graham Reznick The Right Vibe: a new interview with Ti West Satanic Panic: a new interview with Jocelin Donahue Slowing Down is Death: a new interview with Actor AJ Bowen A Level of Ambition: a new interview with Peter Phok Hiding the Seams: a new interview with Composer Jeff Grace Writing Through Sound: a new interview with Graham Reznick This Night Changes Everything: The Making of The House of the Devil In The House of the Devil Deleted Scenes Trailer Limited Edition Contents: Rigid slipcase with new artwork by Nick Charge 70-page book with new essays by Martyn Conterio, Ariel Powers-Schaub, Jerome Reuter and Julieann Stipidis plus Behind the Scenes gallery 6 collectors' art cards Other releases: https://www.dvdcompare.net/compariso....php?fid=26954 If I buy it I'll be using the cool original UK artwork: ![]() https://secondsightfilms.co.uk/colle...ble-april-28th https://hmv.com/store/film-tv/blu-ra...dition-blu-ray https://www.rarewaves.com/products/5...imited-edition https://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/the-ho.../16238359.html https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DYVNN3Y9/ |

I have it it's very cool I don't think it's mega rare.
Rarewaves have the LE for £29.97 with their 10% off RWFEB10 (ends GMT 2100 today) that makes them the cheapest at £26.97. https://www.rarewaves.com/products/5...imited-edition If that was 4K I would have ordered it by now. |

I still have the VHS that was bundled with the US DVD ![]() The artwork for this should have been more retro, possibly like a VHS box or something. |

I really wanted one of those, as someone who still has and uses VHS.
I have a few others that came out around the same time, The Sleeper (nicely packaged in a unique combo box), Burning Moon, The Bloody Ape and the VHS2 set. Also the very limited UK VHS release on VHS, which was exclusive to an event in London House of the Devil P&S's it's VHS, giving it a real throwback feel. Sleeper and the two VHS films don't do that. Bloody Ape isn't really worth watching on VHS as it seems to have been from a compressed source that's shows maxroblocking which is absent from the dvd. The Sleeper is actually better on VHS, as it helps to hide it's shot on digital video nature, which somewhat spoils the retro attempt of the filmmakers. |

What rubbed it in more was that there was a retro style poster for the film up on the wall at the event, so they did have some retro style art. :/ |

Frankly bizarre that this isn’t a 4K release. We’re supposed to be excited about a new Blu-ray release of this in the year 2025?

"Bizarre" that a film shot on 16mm and finished digitally in 2K isn't on a febrile collector's format that doesn't even have 10% market penetration in the UK? Black plastic is one hell of a drug.

Sorry, didn’t realize it was 16mm. Not that that has stopped such films from getting 4K releases in the past (see: Martin, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, both released by Second Sight AND IN THE UK WHERE THE FORMAT DOESN’T EVEN HAVE 10% MARKET PENETRATION), but point taken. I guess.

Frankly can't remember how good or not-so-good the old edition is. Still my favourite Ti West, might just have to watch it again. |

Well, I had a choice this morning either this release from SS or new prescription sunglasses from Goggles4U,
Sunglasses won at £32.00. I will buy the vanilla release when I see it cheap for the extras but lack of 4K and the usual cookie-cutter meh artwork = no sale. For now. |
