Anyone watching this too? Nearly done with the first season and I'm honestly loving it. Sharp humor, hilarious social commentary, and charming characters. Totally makes sense coming from the creator of The Office and Parks and Recreation.
Highly recommend it. |

How is this show? Judging off the trailer it looks like "the good place" rip off.

It's no masterpiece but pretty solid.
It's sort of a mashup of The Good Place and Ready Player One. The afterlife is a computer simulation and is run as a virtual hotel where everything costs money. One of the major plot points of the season is that the main character was murdered; so there's this conspiracy theory element to the show as the various characters try to figure out the mystery. It's still a sitcom though, not nearly as heavy as I'm making it sound. I'd give it a 6.5/10 score. |

It's funny because one of the creators of Parks and Rec went and made The Good Place, and the other creator went and made this. Upload is a superior show, in my opinion. Sharper writing and better characterization. Slightly different, but definitely similar.

Just finished the season, and thought it was a great show. Definitely recommend a watch.
They have a few similarities but I never got a Good Place vibe from Upload as I was watching it. Different shows, for one Good Place is way more comedic than Upload which is more drama/romantic I would say. |

I agree. I went in completely blind but got sucked in. The eps seem to end in little cliff hangers that just make you want to keep watching. Even when the season ended I wanted to jump into S2 right away.

Defending Your Life did it better. Much better.

My wife and I are among the very few people we know who love DEFENDING YOUR LIFE (I've seen it at least 15 times), but I really think the two don't compare at all. There was no exploration of the circumstances and protocols in the Brooks film, whereas UPLOAD does a genuine science fiction exploration.
For me, LIFE's limited failing is in not exploring a lot of the setup and going for throwaway lines instead, which is why I often thought it might fare better as a TV series called JUDGEMENT CITY (and I write judgement with 2 Es because that is how I always was taught it was spelled, even tho postT2 it seems to have lost that first E.) I think UPLOAD is the most intriguing new show I've seen lately, and that's even with this recent glut of good stuff (counting MANDALORIAN in there, along with DEVS, which I just started last night.) Chemistry between leads is exceptional and it just seems so bittersweet as to be classic-in-making. |

I finished the season last night. I've been trying to get away from binging shows so it look a little bit for me to get through the season. I loved it though and can't wait for Season 2 (especially after that ending). I actually started a re-watch already today.
