Dammit, the 1975 quad mix and that "bootleg" might mean I have to get this.
Favorite album ever from my favorite band ever. Thought I had everything... but I needs more, my precious. "And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph and sail on the steel breeze" |

I'm pretty sure that the members of Pink Floyd have no say in what is released going forward. They kept the songwriting rights but everything else is up to Sony. Live At Pompeii and this Wish You Were Here are the first two releases since Pink Floyd sold their catalogue to Sony, which is probably why both releases are actually excellent. RW used to own the rights to The Wall as part of the agreement to let the other three tour as Pink Floyd but I doubt Sony gave them all of that money for all of the catalogue except for The Wall.

The $27 Blu-ray is the release for me; I have no need for all the extra "tat", as they say. All I really really need is that Steve Wilson remaster of the 1975 bootleg.
Of my huge Floyd bootleg collection (which covers every setlist from 1967 Copenhagen to 2005 Live-8), the 1975 shows are among my favorites. Best set-list ever, with the two work-in-progress tracks that would show up two years later on Animals (in a little more refined form from their 1974 emergence), plus the addition of a ROCKIN' Have A Cigar, which they hadn't played at all yet, back in the similar setlist of '74. PLUS, Gilmour has some extra little guitar flourishes I absolutely love during the choruses of Brain Damage, AND the encore of Echoes features Dick Parry on saxophone -- which isn't better per se, but is an interesting variation. All in all, that stand-alone Blu-ray is an absolute win as far as I'm concerned. |
