I am soooo down for those controllers. I hope the ordering process isn't a mess. I also hope it isn't one set per family as my sons will each want a set as well.

Apparently, the online play will not be the only feature that Nintendo’s Switch Online NES titles will have. Some people have received an email from the company today, and it contains more details. According to Nintendo, the NES titles will also have “HD resolution, filters, and special save states”. Screenshots of the email can be seen in a gallery down below.

My body is ready.

(actually, not sure if I'll sign up, but if it has online smash bros that is seamless and lag-free, I'll probably sign up. i love that its way cheaper than ps4/xbox online)

I'm still REALLY pissed that we still have to go through the freaking phone app for voice chat. I was hoping this would be fixed when their service rolled out. Has Nintendo ever provided any explanation as to why they've set it up this way? There's no reason why this feature cannot be supported natively through the system itself. It just seems like one huge unforced error on Nintendo's part.

From what I heard, apparently NOA* doesn’t like it either. They heard the complaints and wish they could get rid of it, but NCL** is insistent on using it.

*NOA = Nintendo of America
**NCL = Nintendo Company Ltd. (often incorrectly referred to as "Nintendo of Japan")

But WHY though? Have THEY offered up any explanation for this ridiculous decision?

Apparently it has to do with mobile being a much bigger thing in Japan than it is here. NCL thinks that people will love the app, without putting in much thought about how the rest of the world would react to it.

I’ll pay $20/yr to continue playing MarionKart and Splatoon online. $20 is nothing really, but this whole re-authentication of NES games once a week is confusing? So if you don’t log in once a week you lose access forever???

I think it just disables the ability to launch the game until you connect to the internet again, then it resets the 7 day timer.

Hey I'm hoping Metroid Prime 4 has support for online multiplayer. Plus Smash Bros too.

I think Smash is a guarantee for online play.

According to Nintendolife anybody can form a "family" together, so if you can find 7 other people to join in, that's less then 5$ a year. If enough people here were interested I'd go for it.

I'm hoping this also means any region. I was able to add my main account (US) to my sub account (JP) but not the other way around. I wonder if I buy the family plan (at the cheaper US rate) if my JP account gets access? The free trial is only for individual plans so I'm hoping some brave soul tries this and blogs about it.

Also, since it requires a CC or PayPal, I can only buy the service at the US rate.

I downloaded both the Famicom and NES versions. As long as you have one Nintendo Online account, you can download both Japanese from the Japan eshop and the Engish from the non-Japanese eshops (US, EU, Australia, etc)

Some of the games are exactly the same, but some like Mario 3 have some difficulty differences and games like Zelda are in their respective languages.

How do you access the japanese eshop from the same account that you use for the US eshop? Normally you have to have a separate second account.

Yes you have to have a second Switch profile account - for Japan to access the Japanese eshop. Setting up a second or third profile (for US, EU, Japan, for example) is free.

But as long as you sign up for Nintendo Switch Online from any region, you are able to download the Famicom and NES without any extra charge.

Is $20 really that hard to come by?

Gold points can be used for Online membership however they can’t be used to auto renew.

Most people drop $20 on a single meal just for them self at least a couple times a year. Unless you are a child or a poor college student I don’t see why anyone is blinking over $20/yr.

I'm pissed that you can't individually buy the NES games. I don't want to be limited to an online "service". I want to be able to buy and download them like any other e-shop game, regardless of whether or not I opt to sign up for the service.

The only thing making me consider signing up is the cloud save back up feature, and even that annoys me because it will be limited to certain games, and it is already asinine that we can't back up our saves to the micro SD card.

I'm still otherwise a Nintendo fan and in most respects I think the Switch is probably their best system since the SNES. But it would be nice if they could just release a good system with good features without "Nintendoing" it all up.
