what is the difference between decoding and bitstreaming?

Decoding, is basically done by your player (ps3 or standalone). If you bitstream the audio, it basically leaves the audio untouched, and sends it to your Receiver, which then does the decoding. For instance, let's say you own a blu-ray player that can't decode DTS-MA....but it can bitstream it. If you're receiver can decode DTS-MA, then you're set. Even though the player can't do it, your receiver can, so you can still take advantage of that codec. Simple easy way to understand it.
