Default XDE - Toshiba still hasn't given up

http://www.toshibaxde.com/

Apparently Toshiba still wants to steal some of Blu-ray's thunder. So they're making some fancy upscalers with "Xtended Detail Enhancement"...

Of course, it's upscaling, edge enhancement, saturation boost, exposure modification, and contrast adjustment.

So it's like playing with the picture settings on any photo editor. Gee, that's REALLY great.

BUT, they say, it's not, because it analyzes the picture and only applies the enhancement to areas that "need it".

So it's like playing with those same photo controls, only you have a certain part selected. Forgive me for still not being blown away.

Not to mention you don't decide where you want enhancement, the computer does. Which introduces the possibility for all sorts of screwups you can't do anything about.

Their whole selling point is that it's cheaper than Blu-Ray.
Well... it's still not HD. It does nothing for the sound.

They even advertise as "NEAR" HD quality.

Assuming the computer doesn't screw up the enhancement.

I'll stick with Blu-ray, thanks.
