Default Will all Blu-Ray Disc players play all storage capability discs?

I thought that you did not have to buy a whole new Blu-Ray Disc player for discs that would be released later on that have a greater storage capability? What's the truth here? That would be terrible if that were the case...is it true?

umm from what im getting here i will say that a blu ray player will read blu ray discs period. if the disk is a 1000gb then it will still read it. blu ray is blu ray ONLY ON A BLU RAY DRIVE. putting that higher capacity disk in a ps3 probably will only tell you the information on it and thats about it. im not a guru but i can safely say that your in good hands with sony. dont let them down and they will never let you down. remember ps1 and ps2? ps3 will be no different. time is the key to unlocking all door of mystery. wow that rhymed. lol.

Currently BD-ROM spec is only for 50GB and 50/52GB(I think) for BD-R/RE. So BD players can read those if they are per spec. Anything above that, it's in the realm of computer drives as those higher capacity discs are BD-R/E, not ROM.
