Default So...

I have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI to my Onkyo receiver and understand changing my ps3 settings to linear pcm for Blu rays that support this. But when I am watching a Blu ray that is TrueHD or DTS-HD MA should I change the settings back to bitstream? Kinda confused thanks

no you'll want to keep it on LPCM. the PS3 can't bitstream the advanced codecs. It can only convert them in player and send out via LPCM

The only time you would want to switch to bitstream is playing back certain dvd soundtracks like DTS ES 6.1 found on a few discs. The PS3 doesn't decode those properly and discards the extra flags found in those dvd soundtracks. This is not a problem for most 5.1 audio soundtracks on dvd though.

Hmmm...so the PS3 doesn't switch automatically???

That doesn't seem right.

There must be a way to leave it alone???

No???

Are you sure? I'm not disputing with you on this - I just never heard of this issue before. The PS3 won't properly decode and transmit DTS ES 6.1 as LPCM 6.1? I assume the same holds true for DD EX 6.1 then too? That seems like a really basic thing to miss.

Hopefully a future firmware upgrade will take care of this.
